Can I use rechargeable batteries in my Humax remote control

Generally rechargeable batteries aren't recommended for remotes as you only have 2.4 vdc instead of 3.0 and intermittent things happen, what I don't understand is why you would spend the money on rechargeable batteries for a remote and they last a couple yrs before they need replacing
