3. Shut down PC
4. Wait 2-3 minutes
5. Reconnect power to modem, and wait ~ 1 minute
6. Reconnect power to router, and wait 30-60 sec.
7. Reboot PC
8. Try to reconnect to internet...

Tyr to power cycle the router and modem. First, make sure router is plugged into modem. Unplug power cord from both devices. Plug in the modem first, let it boot all the way up first. Then Plug in router and wait for it to boot up. Check your internet connection. If there is still an error message, make sure on the back of the router you have the Ethernet cord from the modem plugged into the input port of the router. comcast use 10.0.0.1 for ip address, I think check direct tv box for internet settings for it's ip address should 10.0.0.2 maybe call directv maybe they could further.

That is not the right way to do it. Connect one computer to the cable modem using an USB A/B cable from the USB port on the modem to an available USB port on the computer and connect the second computer to the modem Ethernet port-to-Ethernet port using an Ethernet cable (probably the modem came with one Ethernet cable). If you are a well known person about the configuration of your modem you can reset your modem configuration yourself. But if you are not, go with any experts or technical person or user manual to do it. After resetting it check your IP address using the site Ip-Details.com .

There are a couple of options you can try. 1) Contact Arris directly for details on how to purchase this modem. 2) Try and see if this modem is located on eBay or any other auction site. *** I have not been able to find a site that sells this modem. But I have found people in a similar situation as yours. They have Comcast internet and instead of renting the modem they want to purchase, or upgrade. check out these two links. There's a reset button on the back of the modem. It'll power cycle it. That should work and if it doesn't make sure everything is connected and tightened.

There could be a couple of causes for this issue. Your internet could be degraded when it gets to your house causing disconnects. You will have to contact your Internet Service Provider in order to have them resolve this issue. Normally, they will replace splitters and may even replace lines outside of your house. You could also be having problems with the modem directly. The may replace this. You could also try to upgrade the software on it. Click here for the update page for Arris.

Typically, I recommend you unplug the router, plug the computer directly in the modem and see if you still have the problem. If you still have the problem then you know it is just the modem. If the problem resolves itself then you know the most likely culprit is the router.

I would also recommend that you update your router firmware as well. Do a google search for the brand name of the router and go to the companies website, look in the support/downloads section for updated software.
--If possible, try a different Ethernet port on your router. You may have a bad port.
--Take out and reinsert all Ethernet cables on your network. Loose cables can cause disconnects.
--If possible, replace the Ethernet cables. Bad cables can cause this.

Lastly, you could be having an issue with the Network card(NIC) on your computer. Network cards are either built into the modem or external(a card you insert into the motherboard). Using the process of elimination and the steps above, you can hopefully narrow down the problem to one specific component of your network.

Good day. In regards to your issue you might need to check the following:

1. Connection from the wall outlet to our modem
2. Try to check if there's an ongoing outage on your area by calling your service provider
3. Ask for a tech to come and check all of your equipment.

Note: A lot of things could cause intermittent connection. The best way is to call your isp and let them do a diagnostic on your line.

This is generally due to the cable fault, ask your service provider to check out his connection to the modem & also diagnose setting on the modem.

When you did the initial setup for your router, you should have configured the wireless adapter in the router:
* set a SSID -- the "name" of the network
* set an encryption-level -- hint: use 'WPA' or 'WPA2'
* set a password for your network

It's that SSID/password that you need to enter on the DSI, to make a wireless connection to your router.

You have to enter the router set up utility...
Open INTERNET EXPLORER and. In the URL address field, enter the IP address for your wireless router ( the DEFAULT GATEWAY. This information should be contained in your router's manual. Enter the username and password for your router. This should also be supplied in the router's manual. You should now be able to see your wireless router settings. You can configure your network ports, as well as SSID (wireless network name) and passwords(aka; wep key, passphrase,etc)

lets try to get one computer working at a time, so you have your arris modem, just unplug the modem for a moment, make sure the appropriate cable is going to the wallsocket and then take the other cable and make sure its connected at the appropriate LAN slot on the modem, and then take the other end to the downstairs computer, now you should have the downstairs wired to the modem and the modem to the well, plug the modem back in and also restart your downstairs computer.

Once both are started, you should be online, if you are not, hold down the windows key and press R, in the run menu that came up write CMD and hit OK. In the black window write IPCONFIG and hit enter, take down the IPaddress, subnetmask and the default gateway of that computer, and if you could post them here for me to review.

I can't post further instructions without knowing what windows the computer has, is it a windows XP machine, vista or windows 7?
