Could be that the camera is locked or somehow isn't in a disk mode. Try right clicking on the camera volume and selecting "get info". If the permissions aren't set to read/write or the volume is locked, try changing these things around. Might help.

be sure your lense and autofocus sensors are clean first thing.. then push the take picture button half way and it will autofocus. Pressing hte take picture button fully then will snap the picture.
