Understanding Samsung digimax 4010 camera

First, go out (if you have not already) and buy a set of AA-sized NiMH rechargable batteries and a charger. The Energizer models w/ charger are fine and can be found all over. Alkalines are not useful for this camera (or many others) for very long. Second, the camera should (I'm guessing) default to full auto mode. Turn the camera on, point it and your subject, and hold down the shutter button until it takes the picture. You might want to hold the shutter half-way to let it focus first, but it's not required. Samsung doesn't have a lot of info online about this camera, so it's pretty difficult to give any more tips. I've not used this camera before. Basic functionality should be available right out of the box though.

How to unlock card

Greetings zeeki,

There is a small tab on the side or bottom of your card that at times can inadvertently become locked. Simply slide it to the opposite position it presently is.

I hope this helps!
Thank you,

Dorothy

Digimax 4010

Hey shiney_sapph,
I am assuming you need the driver for this camera for your new computer so I have provided a link below where you can download it from the manufacturer. Once you go to the link under the download center in the first drop down menu choose the s-series and then under the next drop down menu choose model #401 which is the same as your camera and then left click the go button. This will bring up another screen and at the top is a button to download the driver. I hope this helps!

Sincerely,
Allan

Memory card stuck in camera slot

No need for pliers! I was able to eject the memory card by sliding a packing knife along the edge of the memory card. The blade was very thin, narrow, and long. I'm not sure if a regular box cutting knife blade would do. I've been able to eject the memory card with ease about a dozen times using this method.

Since I can't eject the SD card on the go, I use the USB cable to download images from the camera. Glad to know I can remove this when absolutely necessary, but sure wish I could remove anytime I'd like.

I lost my software

Download drivers from the samsung website (http://www.samsungcamera.com/). The drivers for the 401 should work for the 4010. If your new computer is running Vista, they may not have a driver, in which case you will need to use a memory card and card reader to read the photos directly.

Formatting Memory Card

did you format your card? try going into the set-up menu on your camera and you should find a format option - THIS WILL ERASE ANYTHING YOU MAY HAVE HAD ON THE CARD...so if you have anything on there use a memory card reader and transfer it to your computer before formatting. If the formatting doesn't fix the card error message you could try formatting it on your computer (if you have a pc, go to 'my computer' and under 'removable devices' you should see the memory card, right click and choose format - i don't know the process for macs, but i would guess do a ctrl+click on the memory card when it appears on the desktop). If that still doesn't work the card is probably corrupt and you may need a new one.

Download pics

If you are using a removable memory card, you can get the images directly from the memory card by using an external card reader (if your computer does not have a card reader for your type of card built in). If you need to download the pictures directly from the camera via the usb cable, you can get the driver from the samsung website... you'll probably have to download drivers for the model 401 which I believe is the same as the 4010. If your computer is running Vista, new drivers may not be available, in which case you will need to use a memory card and card reader.

Resolution

Many cameras will take pictures at only 72 dpi. Changing the resolution causes the camera to change the size of the picture in terms of pixel dimension (ie 800x600 vs 640x480) but always at 72 dots per inch. A photo editing program like Photoshop can change the resolution to whatever you need.

The internal memory is 16MB, anything beyond that will not be on the camera. Should be goods for a few pics. Just connect it to your computer and download them. I hope this is comforting.
