check your final for voltage, work your way from IC 1 on up then check audio transistor . Work your way through the transmit section then the receive section . Check your volume control ,make sure its working alright Just have patience and it might jump right out at you.

do you have a spectrum analyzer? A function generator , bird 43 watt meter,multimeter etc. ? If you have all these then go to www.cbtricks.com and get the information you need .

you probably had it plugged in wrong to begin with. get an external speaker and plug it into the external speaker plug on the back of the radio.

If you were to turn it up how would you do it ? well the process is the same but only do the opposite . you will need an external SWR Watt meter to do this correctly.

If you have not bought it yet some dealers may have them already set up.Cobra is a popular radio so before you buy ask. you could just match it up to a cobra 25 mic though.

It sounds like the switch is bad. I'd have Cobra warranty it for you.

Cb radio is line of sight. If there is a hill in the way, or some other kind of structure it will block the radio waves.

But also, radio waves, will bounce of the ionosphere and come back down.

So whats probably happening is...

You hear people close because they are near. You can't hear some one some what far away because of hills or something, but you talk to people far away because the are within range of the radio waves bouncing back down to them

• What size fuse are you using? Is this radio a new radio to you? Is it new out of the box? How many muddy footprints are in it. In other words any mods been done to it? If so which?

• Since you have your multi meter out I'd like you to look at the board that the WX/CB switch is. There will be some resistors and diodes in the general area. One or the other is not letting current flow and is blowing the fuse. Check the resistors and diodes right before the wire that goes to the board the little switch is on. Resistors can test other side and should test for the appropriate Ohms. Diodes should have current in only one direction and if it does not it is bad. If a part is suspect unsolder it to get a conformation of it's functionality. Check for bad solder joints or loose wires too.

• You may need a new meter as well. You can get one at a great price here. http://www.texxcomm.com/ at the moment their website is being updated but he is a great dealer in CB parts.

• Check around the mic connector on the inside of your CB. Check for cracks and loose soldier joints. This is gonna take a bit of time for you to go through things.

If your meaning a fuse its a 2amp min-5amp max...

it depends on what radio if you have a cobra 18wx style or maxon's, or a radioshack type the red is constant power 12v, orange is a switched 12v.. IE key like a stereo, and black is ground. if you have a 25 or 29 ltd types or exports they only have 2 wires red 12v and black ground. but you do find some power cords that have all three, and the orange on the 25 / exports are not used.

If you have red and black wires, the black is negative (-) and the red is positive (+).

did you repace the driver aswell

1st check mic then coxial /antinna ground/then if still haveing probblem check to see if SWR is set to antinna

Try backing off the RF gain just a bit. there is a lot of noise in the airwaves these days.

Could be a few things.One as simple as a bad soilder on the board or your voltage regulator could have went out. If you take the top cover off and talk in the mic and its starts transmitting then you have a bad soilder to check the regulator is a little harder and not for just anyone to do.

When you open up the radio and look at the component side (top of pc board), the diode you are looking for is D17. It is located basically in front of where the PA jack connected to the pc board. Just make sure when you solder the new one in place, observe the side that the grey band is on, which should be facing toward the point of the arrow pic.

You can pick the diodes up at most Radio shacks or online through www.partsexpress.com. I use Parts Express for all of my small electrical components and tools. They are very reasonable and very trustworthy. The diode you are wanting is called a Rectifier Diode. The part numbers range from 1N4001 and 1N4008.
