check squelch and wires to the speakers

look inside radio at the components. you will see the transformer and a variable next to it . turn the variable clockwise wide open then back it off a bit. this should improve your modulation.

Modulation being muffled could be the mic or it could be an adjustment in the unit.

per fcc rules (laws)? you cannot put an amp on a cb. max output 4 amps. you should be able to put a pa speaker using the pa output jack. take your radio back for warranty.

try turning you radio power down to 1 watt and see what that does .the asskicker 100 watts is being overdriven by the radio power and its coming out sounding horrorable . How many watts does the radio put out now? the lower the better like I said in the begining 1 watt is best with a box.

is it wired direct to fuse box or is it to a lighter plug? the plug will make a lot of ground noise. try different ways until you clear it up. one way is a noise clipper from H +Y

don't cut or increase watts.Check it out first as you may want to turn down wattage. Cutting or clipping a radio is not good . over modulation could cause a problem not only with the radio but with those you talk with. You will be slashing your modulation waves over the whole band any if it interfears with them they won't be happy. you can get all the information you want on www.cbtricks.com

The SWR meter on the radio is some what accurate, you might want to use an external meter. First thing you do is get a pencil and paper to write down the readings. On your meter you will notice it says FWD and REF. Set your radio on channel one then set your meter on FWD , key your mic , adjust the meter to the check line , then switch it to REF and do the same . Now write this number down. Switch to channel 40 and do the same then do the same on 19.If you have a final reading of 1.5 over the band then you are ok but if its higher on 40 then on 1 you have to shorten the antenna , if its higher on 1 then you have to lengthen it . Continue this until you have a satisfactory reading.
