Cobra 29 WX NW ST 40-Channels Base CB Radio - Page 3 Questions & Answers
The lights on the front
- That Night Watch face plate is AC ran by a converter inside the radio. The LEDS are part of the face plate and sold as one unit. The face plate goes out often on these radios. In short the face plate needs replaced if you want it to light up. The radio's performance will not be effected by this. Cobra can actually switch that out fairly cheap. Cheaper than buying a face plate used on the net.

hello dcigno
when you say you have two wilson 2000 antennas you mean cofaced this could be down to the lengths of coax ,are both coax lengths the same if not you would not get a perfect match also check the pl259 connectors on each antenna make sure there is no short whatsoever iff all fails just use the one antenna , and see how that works for ya ,for a more technical term the antennas should be a 1/2 wave apart taking into account the lengths of coax ,hope this helps you out above all check coax for breaks or faults goodluck
I have a Cobra 29 WX NW ST Sound Tracker and the
Hello johnson,
Welcome to FixYa. My name is John, and I will be assisting you with your issue today.
It does not have to be the same part number as the original one! I just fixed one
today with the same problem. If you have any old radio just laying around with an on/off
volume control in it, that will work just fine! Just make sure its not bigger knob wise.
You will probably have to remove the face plate to get to it. I some how worked around mine.
Just mark the wiring when you remove them, so you will know how to replace them. Easy job!
Hope this was helpful to you. Your Comments and Testimony's are always welcome here.
Thanks for choosing FixYa today and in the future.

Want to know which pins are power and ground on
Looking into the radio from bottom side, look in the radio towards the power terminal (looking strait ahead) the power terminal on the left is ground and the power terminal on the right is positive. As for the cord itself there are three pins. Pin 1 is power and pin 3 is negative. Let me know if this helps
When i transmit if the other vehicle is anything
Well if they are not hearing you over a mile but you hear them over 5 miles that is a good indicator that your antenna is working properly but your radio is not getting out there. First go ahead and check the TX knob. Turn it all the way to the right so you modulate as much as the radio will allow. Next turn the squelch knob all the way to the left until you hear static and then turn it to the right slowly until the static noise goes away. Some don't mind the continual static but I like to squelch it out. The TX being turned to the right will allow your radio to work at full capacity. If you still don't get reports much over a mile then you can try a power mike to help you out a bit. Your microphone could have seen it's better days and can for sure mess up your transmit. Make sure your SWR is low 1:1.5 is the goal not to exceed 2. If all that checks out then have it peeked /tuned and aligned by a tech. Good luck to you.
Everything works but can only
check swr's and the antenna installation. if all is good. have the radio checked out. ITS should be FREE!!!! to see if it has any rf power out put could have a bad rf final transistor.....
I have my NEW cb wired correctly as the mannal

Make sure that your antenna is grounded good to the body of the vehicle.
Check the connection in the back where the antenna plugs in.
Put your channel selector on channel 19 and make sure the Weather button
is not pressed in. Turn the RF GAIN to MAX, MIC GAIN to MAX .
If you still have issues, let me know! We are here to help you!

Looking to install astatic echo board in uniden PC78XL
usally on most radios you will unplug the wire that comes from the number two mic plug. you will hook you sheid witch is the 2 little black wires from the echo board to number one mic plug. then the two wires will go to wire you unplug and the other one will go to number 2 mic plug.
Power shorted to ground
Looks to me that from what you write...The input diode hav given up the ghost ( burded out.)
If you have hooked it up with reverse polarity you will find the 1 - 2 watt diode is cooked and needs to be replaced. It is located at the point where the power leads come into the case at the rear.
Hope this is of some use to you ! !

Cant get swr's to come down
this could be alot of things but you never say what antenna you are using ,please check coax with multimetre for short, check pl259,it might just be the pl259 but check it out also if you are using a coil loaded antenna check for breakage along the coil goodluck
I have had my radio
If there is static noise, then it's probably not the weather board. We have had something like this happen in our area....
The closest weather station to here up and quit transmitting. The transmitter died after years of use. So all of a sudden there was not weather station. It was out for months.
If there is no noise at all, then there is probably something wrong with the weather board. I don't mess too much with weather boards my self. You could look at the weather channel selection knob and look and make sure all the wires are connected, also the switch to turn on weather.
