20 Most Recent Furuno FCV-582L GPS Receiver Questions & Answers

Hello Piavarone302,

I understand that you would like to know about changing your Furuno fish finder to the newer FCV 585 unit. The Transducers are interchangeable they both are compatible with one another. However, the main difference in the two units is the size of the units. The FCV-582L is 7.9 inches square and the new FCV-585 is 9.2 inches square. Both of these dimensions are for flush mounting the units.

Here are links to both of the units specs, manuals and etc.

If you need anymore assistance please do not hesitate to post another question to this thread. Thank you for choosing FixYa.com

Hello. The face of the transducer should be pointing straight down into the water to be properly installed. When it is pointing straight down, the beams of the transducer will shoot straight ahead so you will know what you are traveling into. J.

Since you have little to loose you can attempt to remove the protective coating and not attempt to replace it with a substitute material. It's not required to operate but is intended to enhance viewing in certain light conditions. Might try a window cleaner with ammonia and a little "elbow grease". Remember though, your end result could be worse than what you have now if you're unable to completely remove the film or damage the JCD panel in the process.

You likely have inadequate supply to your helm. Otherwise, there is interference being generated. Try turning things on slowly one at a time, check your batteries and ground connections.

Ability to read the bottom at speed depends on several variables. Output strength of the sounder trasducer (usually need a 1 KW to get constant bottom readings in deeper water), placement and fairing of the tranducer and any bottom appendages that may create disturbed water (air) over the transducer face. Transducers can also go bad over time.

I recommend you Give Furuno a call they have a great service Tech dept. Its free.

white and blue is correct, white is signal, but be aware that manufacturers screw this up all the time, so try it both ways, and look for pulsing data on digital meter measuring 12V, should see meter jump rhythmically, from 0 to 4-12V. Confirm presence of data to maintain sanity
