GE 32GT740 32" TV - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
I have an old/new stock General Electric 12XJ4114W television and I need a dial knob for the UHF tuner plus the knob that goes behind it for the fine tuning.
It sounds like you are looking for replacement dial knobs for your General Electric 12xj4114w television. These knobs are used to tune the UHF (ultra-high frequency) channels and to make fine adjustments to the tuning.
To find replacement dial knobs for your television, you can try the following:
- Check with the manufacturer. General Electric may still have replacement parts available for your television. You can try contacting them to see if they have the dial knobs you need.
- Check with an electronics repair shop. An electronics repair shop may have the dial knobs you need or be able to order them for you.
- Check online retailers. There are many online retailers that sell replacement parts for electronics, including dial knobs for televisions. You can try searching for the specific model of your television to see if dial knobs are available.
I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.
I have sound but no video
The Television is looking for SVIDEO, which is a separate standard. Since SVIDEO does not provide Audio, it uses RCA audio cables. Try switching to a Video in or AV IN setting.

Contact the cable provider to know about the signal type they are transiting by it. If it is digital type, you must ahve a set top box to convert it to analogue signals, which your TV can process. It sounds so.

The chassis used in this series had many problems that were caused by bad solder connections to the metal shield around the tuner. Picture shrinking or moving vertically was a common effect. If no component failures have occurred, resoldering the bad spots will probably fix your TV. Unfortunately, this repair should be done by a professional because it's very easy to do real damage to the circuit board trying to make the repair.
This page has information about the problem and its repair, but it's meant for service technicians and is rather technical. Some other sites have pictures of the areas that need to be repaired and more basic information, but it's still not something you should try without substantial experience. If you want to keep this TV you should probably call a TV shop in your area and see what a repair might cost. When I worked in a shop we charged around $70, but it's been almost ten years now and I have no clue what today's rates are.
WHEN WE TRY TO TURN
Several things can cause a no-start condition. The EEPROM is my first concern. But before you even try to replace it you will have to resolder the Tuner on board. If you can pull the board out of this TV safely, do so. Where the RF connection is, this is the tuner. The tuner is built into the board, you cannot remove the tuner.Unsolder the bottom shield of the tuner. You will take the cover off and find about fifteen area to resolder. You must inspect very close to find these. The grounds that grasp the tuner cover will need resoldered, you can see where the solder is cracked. There will also be center pins in this area that will need resoldering as well. It will require lots of patience and skill to do this soldering. You do not want to burn the the PC traces as you will destroy this TV. After you rsolder and replace the tuner shield, then you may attempt to replace the EEPROM. The EEPROM location is U3201V. You will have to give me a Chassis number to find the correct EEPROM part. Other problems in the start up may be that the switch mode regulator will need resoldered. Location is U4101V.There are eleven pins to inspect. Also any radial capacitors in this are may be weak and may need replace. Please check these. I cannot remember for sure the values or location of these capacitors. I think one was 63 volt 10MF, this is known as the startup cap. Another cap was a 200 volt at about 2.2Mf. These are radial electrolytic capacitors. They are near the regulator I mentioned. Well these are very good leads for repair. I could go on and on.Seems complicated and, is if you have not worked on this model. You must have patience and skill to do this. My first concern would be to resolder the tuner. See what happens. Thanks for asking and show all hands of support.
Not turning on
Hello,
The issue you describe is consistent with a power supply board issue. This is the board where the AC goes to. This problem may have occurred as a result of irregular power supply, or excess power supply or power surge.
The TV is receiving current but cannot circulate or transfer the current to other necessary part of the TV because of the defective power supply board.
I do not think it needs replacement, rather some defective capacitors are causing this issue.
Open unit up and take a look at the power supply board. You will probably see one or more electrolytic filter capacitors that are bulged up in the top-not perfectly flat like the others.
The value of these capacitors will be different, most likely they will be somewhere around-820 to 2200uF/25 V( or /10V sometimes)
You can replace them with same values but I would recommend the voltage rating to be higher(like 35V for an original 25V) for reliability purposes.
What happens is,these bulged top capacitors will cause a low and unfiltered DC voltage=main board will malfunction(the relay will keep clicking until the caps are holding enough charge to bring the voltage up over a threshold point).
You can buy these capacitors at any Fry's or Radioshack store or you can order them online at vendors like "mcmelectronics.com"(look for electrolytic capacitors).
After replacing these capacitor(capacitors) most likely the normal operation will be restored.
Note: There may be also some other causes for this symptom ,like a defective T con board ,or main board, but the bulged top capacitors are the most common cause for this issue.
If you don't know about TV repairers, take the TV to the nearest repairman to fix the fault for you. Also, note that TV stores a lot of current, so wait a while before opening the TV back cover.
I hope this helps.
Regards....

I have a 32" GE television with guide plus
When you brushed up it is possible that you changed the location of the input to which the cable box was set in or memorised. So it will be good to see int he first place if the cable box output is connected to the AV input. If so then use youyr remote to select the AV inputs to receive the cable.
If the cable is tuned to your RF input then the possible channel to which it was memorised being unknown to you can be searched about by scanning the CHANNEL UP OR DOWN , keep it pressed till th picture comes back.
The other option if the cable box is connected to the RF is to do a fresh search for the channels, select menu , select channel search and scan, On locking of the channel, memorise and exit.

Sounds like a probable shorted Horizontal Output Transistor (hot) Hopefully thats all. Sometimes the flyback will fail as well. If your not familiar with electronics I would recommend a tv shop repair. If its just the HOT transistor average repairs are 75-110 depending on your location.

The main problem is from theTV menu.I would recommend you press, menu, then settings, then display settings, and last tv screen. After, you'll get options on how you want to make your screen look like.Example:wide screen, Automatic, etc.
