Yes you can. That should be no problem.

It is mostly a ground hum. You can fix this problem by buying a ground loop isolator. Another problem you may be having is the preamps on your stereo unit are bad.

REMOVE THE RCA INPUTS AND DISCONNECT THE SPEAKERS AND POWER THE AMPLIFIER UP WITH THIS NO INPUT, NO SPEAKER LOAD CONDITION. IF IT STILL GOES INTO PROTECTION AND YOU HAVE VERIFIED THAT THE POSITIVE AND ESPECIALLY THE GROUND CONNECTIONS, ALONG WITH THE REMOTE CONNECTIONS ARE 100%, THEN THE AMPLIFIER WILL NEED TO BE SERVICED. LET ME KNOW IF YOU NEED FURTHER ASSISTANCE.....V

usually because of bad ground try using a wire brush to remove any corrosion, paint, and or rust under ground wire

DISCONNECT THE GROUND WIRE. SAND ALL THE PAINT FROM THAT AREA AND REGROUND IT. WHAT I WOULD RECOMMEND IS DRILLING A HOLE THROUGH THAT TRUNK, SAND THE PAINT AWAY FROM WHERE THE GROUND WIRE WILL GO AND BOLT THE GROUND WIRE TO THE TRUNK BOTTOM. THE PAINT WILL CAUSE THE AMP NOT TO GET A SOLID GROUND

Ill go for a better GROUND , sounds like its not grounded properly and thats why the RED LIGHT . DO A RE CHECK on the installation . hope this helps

If you followed the instructions correctly, then the amp must be defective. This is sort of simple.

My generic suggestions:
You have the power, the ground, the outputs to the speakers, and then the input.

Make sure that none of the speaker wires are somehow being grounded. Make sure that nothing is shorted that feeds the speakers.

how did you connect your amplifier?

if you have a 25 Watt amp (per speaker) then go to radio shack and get (2) 50 watt resistors (8 ohms each). attach them like speakers. turn it on half volume. they should get quite warm to the touch.
