the flexible cable that goes from the face to the main motherboard is probably bad and needs to be replaced

I have the exact same problem. I called the Kenwood tech line and the tech reported that the ribbon cable is probably broke. It is the flex cable between the head unit and the rotating face plate. He said it's not an expensive fix but we would need to mail it to a service center if you're like me and not near one. I just replaced mine with a new unit. It was about time anyways.

Your Kenwood has a component or wiring fault that has to be corrected before normal operation can resume.

Make sure ground and power to the AMP are perfect (clean and tight). Afterwards unplug all the speaker wires and/or RCA speaker connections. Does the light still flash and power down after it is reset? If so, the AMP may be damaged. If not, then one of your speaker wires are shorted. Plug one speaker in at a time. One of them should cause a negative reaction.

Page 13 says it is activated by the user. It tells you to treasure the code. Ask the last user. Take it to a Kenwood Service centre. Try a reset as shown on Page 3 of the manual.

Any video file that is .avi requires codecs. Most players don't have a comprehensive list of codecs on their chips though they have divx and xvid on many devices these days. divx and xvid are codec types of .avi. Types such as .mpg or .mpeg or mp3 or mp4 are older and more compatible with most equipment. mkv may not work

Typically those car radios have an embedded (on circuit board) chip which is a flash EEPROM type memory. And this chip stores data which was programmed even if power is removed to the system. It also cannot easily be erased. They engineer this on purpose because any workaround to there anti theft system would defeat the purpose of having it so. Um I'm 99% certain without that code you basically have a brick which won't power on. And nothing you can do can change that. Perhaps and engineer or something could replace the chip or I have heard of ways to wire in and basically short certain leads causing the chip to delete it's memory without actually destroying it but that is engineer level stuff. Buyer beware I would definitely get a refund on that. A quick Google search of Kenwood 6140 password comes up with this to confirm what I already know about this technology. Also with 4 digits there are 10000 different combinations.
