Lock message
Hi!
My DMR-ES10 appears since last month, the same message, and lets myself crazy!
Today, after a desperate try, pressing the buttons, I found the solution:
Simple press the POWER BUTTON and STOP BUTTON of the unit for a few seconds...
VOILá: The UNLOCK message appears in the display and the unit return to operate without the lock message !!!
For Lock again, press the same buttons at same way until appears the Lock message in the display.
This is an undocumented command...
I hope to help you!

Is there self help repair on elictronics books
You know, that's a good question and one that I wanted answered with this recorder's many problems. But there is not one, I'm afraid. I just kept researching on the net until I found enough solutions to figure out repairs. However, I have one that is still running strong after 4 years (with minor tweaks) and one I just had to chuck. Post your problem and you may find a solution. If it's electronical rather than User, you might be out of luck and better off looking at newer brands. If it is just a User hiccup, most are pretty easy to figure out, especially after someone tells you what it is !!! Good Luck.

Dvd3 remote dvd1 mode
make this steps and fix it. Merry Christmas
Turn on your DVD player.
Open the DVD player's main drive, also commonly called the DVD "tray." The region cannot be changed while a DVD is in the machine, so many DVD players require the tray to be open as an extra precaution.
Push "Info" or "Setup" on your remote.
Use the remote to select the "Region" option as indicated on your TV screen.
Select "Region 9" to change the system to multiregion formatting. Regions 1 through 8 represent specific geographic locations and will not allow multiregion playback.

Picture fades in and out
If only on some DVD's may not be the unit, possible issue when recording etc---the unit is not smart enough to only fail on certain discs unless it happened during recording---a mismatch of some type.

DMR-ES35V Cannot operate any functions ...
Just found the answer in another post, it works.
Hold down the "1" button and the "Enter" button together for about 10 seconds while pointing at the player. This seems to "reset" the remote and everything works fine.
