Universal remotes can be difficult to programme if the code isn't in the instruction book and they are severely limited as they are designed primarily not to replace the original remote but to make life easier - using a single universal remote for the basic functions of two or more units eg. tv, dvd, video, satellite, etc.
A universal remote doesn't usually allow access to menus...

A dedicated remote costs just a little more. I bought mine from Amazon, though I suggest you try and obtain an original type from Panasonic.

If you have had the unit since new and have never programmed a new code into the memory, the default code should restore it.

You may have come close to what the issue is---Blu Ray for several design reasons is much more critical than DVD---seen a lot with this issue----either a dirty or a failing optical pickup in the unit---I know as when first started seeing it in our shop changed a few and since under warranty found the answer--optical unit was the problem---shortly after that they started just exchanging the cheaper units.

It is a complex unit made moreso as it is part digital and part analogue. The best advice is to take it to a Panasonic dealer or at least try to obtain a service/repair manual before even thinking about tinkering with it.

The issue is a bit unclear with its description but I assume you must mean the code to program into a universal remote?

You will have to search on Google with the model # of the TV if that is the case or go to the web site of the remote's manufacturer and get the manual for the remote and look it up there.
