My HDTV rear projector picutre is getting darker - Problem/Solution?

if it is the model listed here pt53w53 the lens on the three tubes may require cleaning, a fairly easy process===with set unplugged remove back cover and clean the three large lens you see at the top--glass cleaner sprayed on a paper towel is fine or a lens cloth will do.

Panasonic pt-53tw53 convergence

It looks more like an open solder because you were able to align it properly after replacing the STK ICs, if there was an open resistor(s) you would not be able to get it align.
I would suggest to go back and double check the solder joints on the STK ICs as well add some fresh solder to the resistors nearby the stk392-180.
Good Luck.

Need to see if you're getting high voltage. See if you have 130v dc on the collector of the horizontal output transistor.

I have a panasonic PT-53X54J And the sides of the

this and a few other related models have a common problem; C509 on the deflection board fails, if it opens you will have a picture that closes until you just have a faint band of light to the right of the middle of the screen; if it shorts then the sweep transistor will be shorted and usually you will have nothing.C509 is brown in color and located near the yoke plugs----some will fail and that cap will have a crack in it. I have seen several where it opened and got the output transistor at the same time. If the output was still good you would have sound like I think you did in the beginning. If you have a multi-meter (ohms etc) check the output transistor from center pin to the outer ones---no reading from center pin to other two.I do not know you skill level.SD TECH

Hi,
To adjust the convergence propely you need the orginal remote of the tv. Even though you can select all functions using an univeral remote when you enter in to the convergance service menu the proprer command can sent only with the orginal remote (also recommended by the manufacturer) . As it is receiving signals there is no problem with the tv's remote sensor. Only thing is you need its orginal remote. You can find the orginal remote for your tv in the following link.

Pt-53tw53g 5 blinks set

5 blinks is a short on the 140 volt line inside the set; most likely is the Horz. sweep transistor is shorted and possible also is a cap in same area.

If you have a meter to measure resistance with the set unplugged I can tell you how to confirm this.

Before you rate this information let me know if you have a meter and such.

My tv will not come on. The power light blinks 3

YES, IT is short protection and 98% chance one of the resistors that protect the convergence circuit is bad.

Good news here:Set is fixable and total parts cost will be under 25 dollars (seller I know on Ebay).

If you want to confirm this: with set unplugged, remove back cover and locate the two heat sinks with fins that have two of the STK-392-110 convergence chips---look at all the light blue resistors in front of them---I bet you find one white in the middle--gone.

Set detects no voltage and a short and shuts down--3 blinks code.

I have start to finish, step by step instructions for this repair that tell everything you will need and how to do the repair--the instructions are based on my own experience doing this repair in these sets hundreds of times.

If photos and info here help and you want the step by step (I can not give my email here.....)rate this solution as very helpful as I am doing this here for free.

cd48042.jpg Chips look like this but metal in your set will be silver.

protect resistors in front will be light blue in color and most will be marked 2.2 which means 2.2 ohms is value.

Pt-53TW53....tv comes on but everything has a red

GO INTO THE CUSTOMER MENU AND SELECT CONVERGENCE--do not adjust the green which is the first option some of these sets offer---if you find red or blue are skewed and or will not adjust you have a CONVERGENCE circuit problem.

Considering if this is the case, total parts cost for the repair will be under 30 dollars if you can do it yourself, you can save the set and a lot of money--most shops get 300 or more for this type of repair.

I HAVE START TO FINISH, STEP BY STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS FOR THIS TYPE OF REPAIR IN THESE SETS--they tell you everything you will need and how to do it

I can tell you the best place to buy the chips and I will help you if you have problems during the repair.

I have repaired hundreds of these sets with convergence problems--usual repair takes about a hour---longer if you are doing it the first time.

LET ME KNOW IF YOU WANT THE INSTRUCTIONS AND OR IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS- I am here to help people.

I have a Panasonic Projection

Hi Jeberleth,
Make sure that there is no loose connection from the outlet.
Give proper ventilation, keep away all obstruction from the vent to have a sufficient flow and to avoid the unit from overheating and caused subsequent shutdown.
If the symptom still persist the problem is internal that caused by the following reason:
1. Bad solder joints/dry joints - you need to check it most especially at the power supply section. This is hard to spot, you must use table lamp or portable lamp and magnifying glass to see some cracks and cold solder.
2. Leaky/dried filter electrolytic capacitor - it will affect the regulation of the B+ (supply voltage). Sometimes it has a bulged/dome at the top but not all, it is best to have a capacitor checker to isolate the faulty parts.
You must prepare some tools and test instrument if you are going to fix it yourself or you may ask the service of a qualified technician to do the job for you.
Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!
Thanks for using Fixya.

Pansonic HDTV 1080i PT 51HX43G BBE High

Hello,

The issue you describe is consistent with a power supply board issue. This is the board where the AC goes to. This problem may have occurred as a result of irregular power supply, or excess power supply or power surge.

The TV is receiving current but cannot circulate or transfer the current to other necessary part of the TV because of the defective power supply board.

I do not think it needs replacement, rather some defective capacitors are causing this issue.
Open unit up and take a look at the power supply board. You will probably see one or more electrolytic filter capacitors that are bulged up in the top-not perfectly flat like the others.

The value of these capacitors will be different, most likely they will be somewhere around-820 to 2200uF/25 V( or /10V sometimes)

You can replace them with same values but I would recommend the voltage rating to be higher(like 35V for an original 25V) for reliability purposes.

What happens is,these bulged top capacitors will cause a low and unfiltered DC voltage=main board will malfunction(the relay will keep clicking until the caps are holding enough charge to bring the voltage up over a threshold point).

You can buy these capacitors at any Fry's or Radioshack store or you can order them online at vendors like "mcmelectronics.com"(look for electrolytic capacitors).
After replacing these capacitor(capacitors) most likely the normal operation will be restored.

Note: There may be also some other causes for this symptom ,like a defective T con board ,or main board, but the bulged top capacitors are the most common cause for this issue.

If you don't know about TV repairers, take the TV to the nearest repairman to fix the fault for you. Also, note that TV stores a lot of current, so wait a while before opening the TV back cover.

I hope this helps.

Good luck.
