The panasonic CD player
The Laser Lens may just need a good clean but it's more than likely that the Laser has failed.
Take the case off and then the cover off the CD Tray. With a QTip and some lens cleaner give the lens a clean and leave it to dry. (Don't touch it with your fingers).

Are you trying to reset the password for Ratings or re-initialize the unit to all factory defaults?
http://www.retrevo.com/support/Panasonic-SC-HT730-Home-Theater-Systems-manual/id/356ci961/t/2/
Page 27 shows one instance of INIT.
Re-initialize Setting
This returns all values in the Setup menus to the default settings.
≥Yes: The password screen is shown if "Ratings" (??? page 26) is set. Please enter the same password. After "INIT" on the display disappears, turn the unit off and on again.
≥No
Page 36 shows how to reset everything.
You have forgotten your ratings password. Reset all the settings to Factory Preset.
While stopped and "DVD/CD" is the source, press and hold ['Square Icon' button for STOP] on the main unit and [S10] on the remote control until "Initialized" disappears from the television. Turn the unit off and on again. All settings will return to the default values.

Does not play dvds suddenly, problem just started
hello,
the problem can be solve by opening the cover of the player. use a dry cotton bud to clean the lens and observe the red light beam on the lens when the player is power on. check for the ribbon cable, because if the ribbon cable is bad , the lens will not beam up a red light. if otherwise replace the lens to the same type.
hope this help

Panasonic SC-HT730 Green picture when showing DVD's
The DVD player of this system will output to a TV on either composite (Yellow jack), component (RGB jacks) and S-Video (a small round jack that looks like a mouse or keyboard connector) jack. Since the tint is off, I would guess that you're using the more desirable component or even the S-video jack. Try removing & re-seating the plugs into the jacks at the DVD and at the TV; then check the picture color. If it still is wrong, try using a different cable type - use a standard video cable between the yellow jacks on both the TV and DVD. You may need to set the TV input to reflect the use of the new jack - and possibly set the DVD to 480i or Interlaced if you used the Progressive Scan or 480P output when using component RGB video cables (Red, Green & Blue). Check for correct color.
Chances are the connection got dirty and caused the color issue - or less likely, the cable or even less likely - the DVD output has failed.
Good luck!

How to connect pc to Panasonic SC-HT730 home theater system?
From what I can tell from your manual, you do not have auxiliary audio inputs on your system. You can, however, use the TV audio input for sound from your laptop. You will need to purchase an adapter cable that goes from male 1/8" stereo mini plug on one end (your computer jack) to a split (Y) male rca type jack (two connectors for R&L inputs on system. Then you'll need some length of 1/8" male to female miniplug extension cable. You can use the miniplug speaker jack on your laptop as an output.
Of course, if you're using the TV audio inputs, and don't want to unplug them to plug your laptop in, you'll need another pair of splitter cables for those rca jacks on your system so you can plug two different pairs of input devices into them, but I'd try to avoid this scenario if possible.
I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take a moment to kindly rate this post....thanks!
