Look inside near the evaporator coil they are usually on the end or in front of the sheet metal cover, they can be hard to find, so the average shopper can't play with it.

I bought a used True

Hello Margarito539,

I understand that you purchased a True GDM-41 merchandise refrigerator and you are having a problem with the temperature. The thermostat you are currently using is an in-line thermostat and is not the proper thermostat for the unit I would suggest that you follow the below link and purchase the proper thermostat for the unit. http://restaurant-equipment-parts.com/part/true/800393 the cost is $36.98 and is an OEM part.

You also may need a service tech to check out the freon in the unit. The unit uses 134A freon and must be within a few ounces of charge other wise it will not work properly. As the unit is keeping it 60 degrees, before you do anything make sure that you can hear the compressor running as this is not a cheap fix, however may be worth the cost for the unit you have. The compressor should be humming if it is not and the unit has been plugged in for a while, unplug for about thirty minutes and let the compressor cool. Once thirty minutes has passed plug in and see if the compressor is humming.

After checking the compressor you have two choices if it is humming call a service tech and have them check the freon charge and thermostat or change the thermostat and see if the compressor starts cooling the unit. If the compressor is working then the box is well worth fixing, if the compressor is not working you need to decide if it is worth fixing. A used unit with a one year parts and labor warranty costs $2100 so the repair should not cost over $1000 to be economical.

Thank you for choosing FixYa.com

Unit is freezing the products. What should the

The evaporator drain pan is blocked with dirt and the standing water freezes along with the evaporator coil. Unplug unit, and when thawed blow some compressed air through the drain pipe. Plug unit back up again and it should be fine.

I have an old TRUE refrigerator (S/N 1-160481).

GDM-41 would be the unit model number???
If you want to get a compressor model number that would be on the compressor tag on the compressor itself. I would not bother with a True part number just get the Copeland or Tecumseh number off of the compressor and get a replacement from a local wholesaler. On this old box do not rule out brittle or shorted wires. I haven't had success with converting a box like this to R-134a unless I change the entire condensing unit and would tend to go with an interim replacement like Hot Shot or R-409A or something like that. The box probably won't last long enough to make R-134a conversion viable.

No power to compressor

Probably the cold control (or thermostat ) is bad .Unplugged the unit and bypass the cold control by putting together the two wires and wrapping them with electrical tape . If the compressor runs , replace the cold control ,if not the problem could be with the start relay.

Where is the ballast in a true commercial coke

It depends on the manufacturer of the specific unit you have, but most of the flouresant light ballasts are installed on the top of the unit either on the back of the top illuminated name panel, or on the actual top of the unit. I have seen some that had the ballasts installed at the rear of the unit and even down in the lower section where the compressor is located.

You'll need to look around as each manufacturer has different specs for their particular units and without the wiring diagram, it is difficult to provide an exact answer to your question. If you remove the cover plate to the bottom section or look on the back of the unit, you might find the wiring diagram that could include a schematic and a line drawing showing the placement of all major components. With a little effort on your part, you should be able to find it.

How do you evac and recharge a true freezer compressor??

Your unit takes R-134A you can buy that anywhere it is 0 depletion on Ozone. The hard part is getting access to your lines if you have a service tap installed piece of cake. They make a saddle valve you can install to access line set. Pull a vacuum on unit takes a vacuum pump and about one hour of running the vacuum. Just put one line tap on the line and be sure it goes on the low pressure line not the high pressure side. The unit the fridge only takes about 5 ounces of refrigerant and has to be weighed in. Also has to be put in as a liquid as this is a blend of refrigerants. As long as you have gauges and pump and a scale I can walk you through it step by step get back with me and we can do that. ken

Ballast location?

the ballast is right in the middle. you should see an electrical cord. open the 2 screws from the ballast cover. then unscrew the top and bottom screw from the ballast. the ballast should come off. cut the wires closer to the ballast, so that you can identify the wire with the new ballast, which will have the same color scheme.

One month old True T-23 not cooling to set temperature. Display is unlocked and set temp is 36 degrees but fridge is continually at 57 degrees

It's possible that the issue may be with the thermostat or the compressor. If the thermostat is not working properly, it may not be regulating the temperature correctly. Similarly, if the compressor is not working properly, it may not be able to cool the fridge down to the desired temperature. It's best to have a professional take a look and diagnose the issue. Another possible cause is the refrigerant levels, if the refrigerant is low this can cause the compressor not being able to cool the fridge properly and will need to be refilled by a professional.
