Sony NW-E405 MP3 Player - Page 2 - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
Computer does not recognize the player
Hi jowik,
Most websites are saying that this is a model Sony no longer supports or sells at the moment. The software required is SonicStage 3.0, same as you're probably using. However, it is more of a problem that the device isn't being recognized at all. Have you tried connecting up to any other computer? If no computer can recognize it (which shouldn't happen, but anyway) then there's something wrong with the player itself. When you connect, check for loose connections, and never use more than one USB extension at once. Many people use an extension of their own plus the one provided by Sony, and they have the same problem that the computer can't recognise the player.

Sounds like firmware, Go to the Sony home page, search support then mp3 then your model, or google your model to find firmware updates, you may have to try a few to get what works for your setup. If you have software for music transfer, try updating or reinstalling.

Transferring music to my mp3 player
This player is only compatible with a few audio formats. The DRM protection system on most WMA's simply won't work after a time. If you only transfer songs in mp3 format, you will never have such problems.
