Faceplate display backlight out
Your display lights are burnt out. This is a common problem. It is covered under warranty. Send it to Sony for service.
Anyway, under the Sony faceplate there are two small, different colored leds which control the color. The light is aparently transfered through pieces of clear plastic (best example I can think of is the piece of plastic over the led in a household smoke alram)to most of the buttons and the backlighting. If your display has burnt out you may just be able to swap the leds for new ones. As for the intermittent green could it just be a faulty solder on the board.
After market stereo installation help
You'll an stereo install kit. I comes with the surround for the new stereo to fit into, and that will fit into the space for the stereo in the dash, this kit will also have a connector to wire the new stereo to, and plug into the stock stereo plugs.

The optic inside the CD player may be dirty or damp, this is the part that reads the data from the cd, you can try cd cleaning discs or you may have get an engineer to open it and clean it with an alcohol swab. The optic could also be faulty which will be cheaper to buy a new cd player.

Should be a blue wire with a white stripe in the plug that goes into your unit if its missing take the harness to bestbuy or an audio shop and they can prolly stick a wire in the empty spot. hope this helps you.

I have the same radio, the radio's harrness has a red wire ignition 12 volt,yellow battery 12 volt, black ground, and a blue Iam not positive it can be the amp, or illumination.
It wont run my subwoofers
See if a) the head unit has a separate subwoofer output control, and make sure it's activated; b) the amplifier you're using for the subs has the gain control properly turned up; c) if neither of these fixes the problem, make sure all of your amp fuses are intact; d) make sure the subwoofers are in a properly-sized enclosure (too much or too little airspace can affect the sound output).
Installing a CD player in '08 Aveo in plac eof stock AM/FM radio
You should check with Car Toys or Best Buy but you will probably need an adaptor and a wiring harness. If your doing it yourself your going to need to know how to get the stock radio out and the wiring diagram for the Aveo. Sometimes you can find the wiring diagram on Google by searching for it but usually finding diagrams for 2008 vehicles takes a year or two before it becomes available.
If your CD player has a tuner in it already you shouldn't need one. If it doesn't have one, that presents some other options.

be aware that in order to connecting Ipod to a car stereo you will need to use an extension cable with 3.5 mm stereo connectors on each end to connect iPod to your car stereo system's aux input, or use a cassette adapter if your car stereo doesn't have a sound input jack. Either of these items can be purchased at stores that sell car stereo accessories.

Memory hold on CDX-CA400 CD Player
The correct wiring is constant power on the yellow wire, switched power on the red wire. I'm not certain why you weren't able to get it to work in this configuration; the unit needs power on both wires before it will turn on, but if you lose power on the yellow wire the settings will be lost.
