Try inserting a paper clip in the small hole on the face of DVD device. Make sure nothing is obstructing the front of of the drive that would prevent it opening.

This seems to be a fault in the main board as it fails to switch on. It seems that the power does not switch on as the main processor has some errors that sends feedback to stop it from switching on.
The fault can be related to a short in the drive board, the power to the main board. If the connector to the main board is detached then the display must show up. If not you will need some basisc electronics to check the processor and circuits to confirm if there are any errors.
Also remove the power and allow some time for the set to drain voltages, when switching on press down the play button -- check the manual for the resetting pattern to reset the processor if it has hung up.
The front panel button jamming or other issues like the CD being jammed cannot make the power from coming up and then shutting down. So you will need to have the main board checked for fault. This being a complex area it is better to get opinions and estimate before you tamper to damage the board.

If your TV has progressive scan capability, you may be able to view the on-screen setup menu via the recorder - select 'SETUP' press 'ENTER' on your DVD recorder's remote to bring up the menu - with the remote arrow buttons, scroll down to select 'VIDEO' then 'PROGRESSIVE' - highlight it then set it to OFF (you cannot do this with a TV that does not support progressive scan from this unit). Once done, exit the setup menu and it should work fine with all the other settings. If your TV doesn't have progressive scan, connect the DVD recorder to one which does and turn its progressive output off there. I assume you still have the user manual for your recorder (if not, you can download it online for free as an Adobe document - .pdf. Page 73 details the setup steps for this model). I hope this tip helps somewhat.

There is a slider mechanism in the remote that reveals more keys under the "zoom," "pause," and "stop" buttons on the bottom row of the visible keys. Slide this open, and in the bottom right corner there might be a sticker that says "peel off before using." Under that sticker is a sliding switch. Slide the switch to the command mode to match that of the player. Hope this helps! It worked for me after reading many incorrect ways to switch it back that did not work.

This is very unfortunate as the content cannot be viewed by an ordinary DVD player. You need a PC with DVD-ROM and compatible DVD software to view the files.

As the DVD is not finalized, it may not be playable by every DVD software player. For this download GOM player and try to play the files. Note: When using GOM you might be asked to download the mpeg codec; simply follow the instructions.

The above instructions are for playback, let me know how it goes and if you need to copy it to a DVD. Thanks.
