May I ask you first, is the disk that you're trying to play are the same disk that you played before with the same player and works fine? IF yes, then that is a lens problem.

You can clean the lens first with a cotton buds moisten with an alcohol and gently wipe it on the lens.
But first, you will need to take the cover off to access the laser lens.

There is a ribbon wire that connects between the mainboard and the pick up lens (optical lens) when cleaning of the lens did not solve the problem, try examining the ribbon connector make sure this ribbon is properly fitted to the terminal socket try detaching the connector and re insert it. If still it did not work then you have to replace the spindle motor.This motor is the one spinning the disk. Once this motor is faulty there will be no reading from the disk....

The part no. of the motor is printed on the motor sticker(surface) good luck!

Unfortunately , Some DVD players ,especially brand ones cant read some DVD s and then it gives either "loading" or " no disc"..reading on the display...
it generally happens when you want to play "A copied DVD/CD " taken from somewhere else..
Just to make sure that such DVD is ok ,you can try to run them on your laptop.If the disc itself has problem, laptop does not read either..
Since you have not stated,if it is an old player pls Clean your DVD player's LASER lens .. A clean DVD player Lens ensures that your DVD disc would be read properly. Unfortunately, your DVD player's Lens accumulate as much dust and lint as the other parts of the DVD player. There are many available DVD lens cleaner kits that you can purchase and use to clean your DVD player.

YOUR DVD disc itself should be clean and finger prints free as well....

Is the commercial skip feature turned on?

A lot of people who have this problem have usually just inserted the plugs in the wrong place. Firstly when you want to play a dvd or video, you have plugs going from the output of the 'machine player" going to the input section of the TV cause the machine is sending information outwards to the TV to display (audio and video). There should however also be plugs going from the output of the TV to the input section of the "machine player" because you want to send data back to record.

The player is broken. If it's new, return it. Otherwise throw it out and get a new one. Cost more to try to have it fixed on warranty than to just replace it.

Unplug the Unit for Few Minutes, say 30 minutes and then Turn it ON.If the Problem Persists, Revert with the below Information :-

1. How old is the Unit?
2. Is the Power LED / Display ON?
3. If yes, then Do you see any Error Message?
4. Do you have tools to Repair it?
5. Do you have an experience in Repairing Players?

after formating in vr moed you only can play this disc in smae dvdplay & this disc cannot play any other player in other hand if you format in video mode this disc can play every dvdplayer video mode is a standard mode

To answer your question;
There is two loading mechanisms that come into play when you insert a tape; the front(cassette) load then the "tape load" which brings the tape(ribbon) into contact with the video/audio heads and the capstan motor.
From your description; the "tape load" is not functioning , and is often caused by misaligned and/or broken gears.
Another cause might be some debris from the tapes got stuck in the load mechanism.
You can lift the cover and look for foreign object, then insert a cassette and look if you can see whats blocking it.

Your best bet would be to purchase the exact replacement remote for your RDR-VX500, I haven't had any good luck with these recorders and universal or non original remotes, don't sub in another remote it will just annoy you as you have discovered.
Try this : www.remotes.com or 1-800-REMOTES they will need the complete model number of your component and they will rush an exact replacement remote to you usually within 4 days.

You will have to remove the top cover to access the DVD tray directly and remove the DVD from the top. As for the DVD player I am sorry, I am afraid mainboard is a toast. You will probably have to replace the entire board as the ICs are solid state electronics and its not possible to repair them. SInce they are embedded into the board, they are near impossible to replace. Suggest that you get the board replaced and from next time, use a voltage stabilizer. It will safely turn off the unit if the power fluctuates so that your appliances will be saved.

If any copyright protected VHS tape is being dub on DVD, it will happen because of guard band signal recorded in VHS tape to protect it from copying.

On most DVDs there is a small hole under the tray where you can insert a straightened paperclip, push in and it will manually open the tray. If not if you can try GENTLY prising the tray open by inserting screwdrivers on both sides of the tray with the power off

You can press the Video button on the front of the unit to start recording. Here is the manual:

vfazzi - You shouldn't have to format a DVD - it should do that automatically when you put a blank one in, or when you start the recording by pressing REC. After the recording is done, you will need to finalize to play it in another player, and the option should then be available (It would "know" not to let you finalize a blank disc).

Sorry David you'll need to get a replacement remote. Not the answer you probably want but that's the only way you're likely to close the sessions, unless someone has written some software that can do this. I had a problem with my funai with unclosed sessions and I had remote but laser needed adjusting

DVD players are ****!! This is my 5th time buying one. It's like the industry is running a big scam because that know that soon all movies will be digital mp3. All of my players give me the same error!!
