You got some wrong advice I am afraid. Hope it was not a Tech that told you this LOL As i would never call them again!! LOL
No such thing as that in a projection TV set. Your problem is the convergence IC's inside the TV set, on a printed circuit board. Both will need to be repalced. If you have some solid state repair experience, you could unsolder these IC's and reinstall new ones, but if you do not please play it safe and call in a pro to assist you in this repair. Good Luck.
WONT TURN ON
If you know how to trouble shoot solid state electronics and know how the curcuits work, then Im sure you can handle this repair. But my friend a tv set is not a place for a handy man to be experimenting around inside of, as there is alot of high voltage inside this set even when its turned off! Its best if you do not know all of the safty issues to seek out a pro to assist you in this repair. It could be a bad solder connection, or a bad filter capacitor that supplys the B+ to the video chip. Without looking at a schematic and tracing the circuit, its all a guess. There are no real user replacable parts inside this set. Good Luck

Loss of picture
When the power indicator flashes on a Sony it is saying "Hey, I lost high voltage". You are probably going to need a new Horizontal Output Transistor, a flyback transformer and possibly a High Voltage Block. None of the parts are that expensive from Tritronics (www.tritronicsinc.com). I just got them the other day for less than $100. You're better off just replacing everything mentioned rather than doing it piecemeal, once and done. I don't know whether you're capable of this repair or not. If you aren't sure have a professional do it. If you are going to proceed, remember safety! TVs are dangerous. Good luck.

How to connect an older sound system to my Samsung smart TV.
Yes, please start with attempting to plug the sound system input into the appropriate inputs on your smart tv and then check the sound of various channels on your tv. If this does not work, please reference the manual for the sound system in order to get your sound working. And lastly, if that doesn't work, I would suggest working with your local Geeksquad/Bestbuy via a home service.
