These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit stage inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices. Viewing it in "Mosaic" or "Magazine" will make surf easy. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ Blinking codes details to many popular brand TVs are given. Surf the site with patience.

When the horizontal output (2SC4927) is shorted it means one of 2 things is wrong - the horizontal drive transformer has cracked solder joints or the flyback transformer is shorted inside. If the solder joints on the horizontal drive transformer (the small grey transformer connected to the base of the horizontal output transistor) are cracked then the set will play for a little while and then the parts you just replaced will again be destroyed. ALWAYS resolder the driver transformer when replacing the parts you mentioned! When I replace the parts you mention and I do not see any obvious cracks on the driver transformer then I unsolder the B+ pin of the flyback (labeled 135, for 135 volts) and put a 60 to 100 watt lightbulb (drop-light) in series with the flyback. This means that the 135 volts B+ goes through the lightbulb and then into the flyback, so the lightbulb acts as a current limiter to protect the horizontal output. When you turn the set on the bulb should glow no more than about half bright and you should hear the high voltage come up, but you should not see a picture. If you turn the set on and the bulb glows as bright as if it was plugged into the wall then you can bet that flyback is shorted and must be replaced.

If the set is more than 10 years old the ceiling point for most sets has been reached, and prices have come down making it more attractive to buy new. To put money in an older set will be gambling with the odds of breakdown in other parts of the tv.

Sony KV-32S40... • Answered on Mar 05, 2011

The set is shutting down because the picture tube is been over driven, it is most likely the picture tube has a short in the blue gun, turning down the screen control drops the voltage to a safer level. The only other possibility is a short video driver and open feed resistor usually located on the video board on the back of the picture tube.

Hello,

The screen is blank with no raster at all. There are indications that the channel numbers are changing in the display. This indicates that some of the low voltages are present but these may be derived from the standby supply.
Assuming there is no deflection and no HV, you either have a low voltage power supply problem, bad startup circuit, or bad horizontal output transistor (HOT) or other bad parts in the horizontal deflection.

Check for bad fuses.

(If you have HV as indicated by static electricity on the front of the screen and you hear the high pitched whine of the horizontal deflection when it is turned on, then the following does not apply).

Use an ohmmeter to test the HOT for shorts. If it is bad, look for open fusable resistors or other fuses you did not catch.
Assuming it is good, measure the voltage on the collector-emitter of the HOT (this is safe if there is no deflection). You should see the B+ - probably between 100 and 150 V.
If there is no voltage, you have a low voltage power supply problem and/or you have not found all the bad/open parts.
If there is voltage and no deflection (no high pitched whine and no High Voltage), you probably have a startup problem - all TVs need some kind of circuit to kick start the horizontal deflection until the auxiliary power outputs of the flyback are available. Some Zeniths use a simple multivibrator for this - a couple of transistors. Others power the horizontal oscilator. IC from a special line-derived voltage. The multivibrator type are sometimes designed to fail if someone keeps turning the set on and off (like kids playing) since the power rating is inadequate.
Test the transistors if it is that type with an ohmmeter. If one is shorted, you have a problem. The usual way a TV service person would test for startup problems is to inject a signal to the base of the HOT of about 15.75 kHz. If the TV then starts and runs once this signal is removed, the diagnosis is confirmed. This is risky - you can blow things up if not careful (INCLUDING YOURSELF IF YOU DO NOT HAVE BASIC KNOWLEDGE ON ELECTRONICS)

If you hear the high pitched whine of the deflection and/or feel some static on the scree, confirm that the horizontal deflection and high voltage are working by adjusting the SCREEN control (probably on the flyback). If you can get a raster then your problem is probably in the video or chroma circuits, not the deflection or high voltage.

Take care in solving the problem........

Depends on how many times it blinks, just count the blinks Example: if it blink 2 times then pauses and blink 5 times then the code would be 25 and so on

Once you have this code, please post it.

If the TV goes in standby, then it is in protection mode.

Ensure also that the fault is not coming from a faulty receiver box sending
bad signal, check if you get same problem on DVD with no receiver box
connected.

Try first leaving the TV power cord unplugged for some times, let say one hour or so.

The flashing light indicates a diagnostic state called protection.
When the TV goes on protection there are only two possible causes.

1The internal circuits are jammed because of electrostatic charges accumulating on capacitors, or because of a wrong voltage read by the main chip on your monitor controller board. this started the protection circuit.

2 The protection circuit detected a wrong voltage or abroken contact, identified an internal fault and kicked in , starting the flashing light.

If you are in situation one, then the TV will reset just unplugging power cord for one or two hours, sometimes even minutes.

If you are in situation 2 , then there is an internal fault.

If under warranty contact the manufacturer ringing the number on the user manual

If you want to repair at your own expenses, just locate any good qualified repairer.

LCD/Plasma Electronic Replacement Parts: Plasma & LCD TVs, Appliances |

On LCD Pay particular attention at inverter and power board, power board can be inspected looking for bulged or leaking capacitors, then tested with a multimeter. The inverter is more difficult to test , there is need to read voltages, should be done by a tech. Also the LCD controller board can cause same problem

On Plasma, test Sustain (Ysus/Zsus) / Buffer boards , cables to plasma, digital board and power board.

On Rear Projection : check lamp, lamp ballast, power board, and convergence.

On CRT TVs, check ballast , flyback transformer, CRT, Tuner, Convergence.
