Two blinks - B+ over current protection (OCP), unit goes to the standby mode then displays the 2 blink fault. Could be a short in the power supply of any of the circuits. Check this link to get more details about Sony Blinking codes.

If it flashes four times in a row and then stops, and agin flashes an another four times, and so on, the fault must be in the vertical sweep section in your TV. It is inside the mainboard. To rectify it you should open the TV and should find out the vertical section. Usually an Ic is used for this function. When you open the back cover of the TV you can see the deflection yoke, that is, the coil fitted on the picture tube neck. There are four wires comes to it fom the main board. Amoung them two are thick, and the other two are thin relative to the thicker one said above. The two thicker wires are for horizontal sweep, and thinner two are for vertical sweep.
Follow the two thinner wire said above, and find it frome which point in the mainboard it originates. Somewhere near to that point, you will notice the vertical Ic said above. It will be screwed into a metal heatsink, and is small in size. Usually Sony uses "LA" series ics for their sets. You just note its number. Before unsodering it look for any dry solder points around or on the legs of the Ic itself. A good practice is to resolder all the suspected points by applying a liitle bit solder. You must have some concept of soldering in this time.
Measure the input voltage to that Ic. It will come around 24VDC. If the main voltage is there, take the voltage of its output pin. It should be almost half of the input voltage.
If there voltages are there, and still problem perists, replace the Ic with a similar type and number. Take care and beware. You are working with an electical equipment which have very high voltages inside it while working.

Since the system control does present channels and sound it's not likely that it's the system control (computer) that is at fault. Try making sure that nobody is playing with a remote and also try see if the effect is happening all the time or only sometimes. If bright sunlight or other infrared source is not visible to the sensor on the front of the TV.

Is the favorite channel menu a function that is normally accessed by a button on the remote?

If so, that button on the remote might be stuck.
If this is the case, the menu may at times pop up all by itself and other buttons on the remote and on the TV's front panel may not respond at all (it had happened on my remotes more than once).

Try to clean the remote control (the housing, rubber pad with knobs, circuit board) with ethyl alcohol, when you clean the housing, you should also clean the holes through which the buttons protrude, there might be some dirt that keeps the button stuck.

It may also be a stuck button on the TV front panel, so check these too.

Also, it could be something else, i just wrote the description of a problem and the solution which to me seemed most likely.

When it is shifted to right vice versa, it indicates a distortion on the horizontal output. Try replacing all the capacitors around the horizontal output area with the same original value. Make sure the horizontal output transistors you replace hasn't started going gone bad already if you know how to check them. Them dimness in the picture is caused by the horizontal output not putting enough high voltage to the CRT. Look for leaking capacitors too. Also replace the resistors around the horizontal output, they may have burnt out or changed in value from overloading cause by the malfunction of the flyback, and the transistor.

take it back to shop

Just had the TV repaired for the same issue. According to the shop it was a bad channel up/down switch. That impacted the other functions (menu not working, remote malfunction) because they're all intertwined. Only about a $75 fix here in the DC area, so maybe cheaper elsewhere.

plug out tv and start over by then the tv will reset itself.if that does not work call in a tech to solve,your problem.good luck/

On that Sony the only glass fuse would be on the primary side where the A.C. cord enters the TV. If it's blown then you have a bad rectifier diode or some other shorted power supply component.

There's a possibility that you may be experiencing problems with the audio output IC -IC404 - All serial numbers produced until July 2003 might use one of these defective IC's. So if your set was manufactured before this date, that is probably the culprit. If not, and you have it connected to a cable box that has its own volume control, it could be that its volume is turned down and by turning up the TV's volume too high that you are getting this distortion. Hope that helps.

There is a problem in the sweep section of the set. The Horizontal sweep power supply most likly. there is nothing a layman can do as it will involve troubleshooting the solid state circuit. please find a trainded tech to assist you in this repair.

This TV is 10 years old and probably requires a service that replaces the backlight invertor or just a power supply issue. Check to see if the light blinks. (That is the fault code and then google the result for more information).
