It sounds like the on-off switch that my son destroyed at age 3 by constant on off. It was a Trinitron. It was still running at least 13 years later after I replaced the switch. But it also sounds like a voltage leak due to a high moisture environment. The high voltage leak pulls a higher load and causes a protection device to open the circuit etc until everything has dried out. If I had to guess, it is a flyback transformer causing the problem.

hit menu button on your remote, navigate to channel setup menu. on the sub-menu, set channel fix to your channel that you require. now when your tv powers up this will be the default channel. if this doesn't fix your issue then try cycling through video inputs tv/video button on your remote.
