You have to check all the output voltages outputs from the main power regulator section. Really, this is a very skilled work, in case of Plasma displays. It is best to contact any service technician. Products powered by electricity should be serviced or repaired only by experienced professional technicians. You can use a coaxial cable direct from the fios router to the TV. If you have a cable box converter then you can use S Video cables Red White and yellow, low quality, or component cables Red green and blue but you will also neeed audio which would be a red and white pair so 5 cables in total, better quality and finally an HDMI cable just one connection but high quality. The last is the most expensive and make sure to get the right length to reach the TV from the converter box

If its 10 years old boards and or parts will likely not be available--average life on Plasma and LCD sets is 3-5 years.

I would retire it--recycle it and buy a new set.

If some kind of color smearing or pixels doing that this set has not color tube and only boards that can be purchased and tried for the issue--could even be the power supply board in the set--too vague a description for more of an answer--ie: does it do it all the time or on rear inputs etc---sound not important with this issue.

It sounds like the repair center was giving you a story.

If you call Sony with the model number and describe the issue (you want to talk to a tech) they will know from their database if this is a known issue or not.

This is a classic switchmode power supply, has sensed a severe potential problem, and is shutting down to avoid a fire, explosion, or both. This set had developed a problem, that is so severe that the set must be shut down, This set should be removed from the Power, and in my professional recommendation, you should get a "Quote" for repair, from, an, Approved Service Center, this point is very important for a good result, Always contact, their local, "Head Office" Now, when you get the information you want, then you can decide as to repair of replacement. The reason we want an approved agent, is that way, all the engineers are trained on their own brand sets, they have seen almost all faults, and will get the job done quicker, and for less cost, and usually have parts on hand, also sometimes, there has been a service bulletin in issued and the repair may be subsided or even free. There are many, many, many reasons that display this symptom, one must work through the troubleshooting steps to isolate and identify, the Cause and repair that and any damage done

Your power supply board is dead, u know basic electronics’ and soldering? Most of the times, the power supply board just have dead leakages gases capacitors. These capacitors always bulges up on it top,or puff up on it top.Replaced these gases leakages capacitors will get your TV power stable, and work again.Or tries websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a whole refurbish power supply board for the replacement.

Take care.....

It might be the problem of your receiver (the one which is inside the television). Check whether it is working and if not get it replaced.
