First plug in again and look at led light, the amount it blinks tells what is wrong. Then if it stays lite it tells something also. You can try Display-channel 5-volume +- Power(service mode). Then Channel 8-enter(test reset). If this doesn't work then you will have to replace somethings like F601, R607, Q601, IC601, R612, VDR601.

tuner may be bad, it is possible if rear inputs work to route signal to one of those inputs by using a box with the same type of connections the rear inputs have--bypass the tuner in the set with a box.

A educated guess here (model is a rather old Sony) this set will blank or shut the tubes off if loss of vertical or horizontal deflection---the slight line at top suggests verticalWhat I have done to confirm this is either use a scope and check for deflection or turn blue screen up slowly(blue is less likely to burn the tube screen) and see if just a line.The set blanks the tubes to prevent a line being burnt instantly at normal brightness (all concentrated into a line) on the face of the tube.If you are technical and have a volt meter you may be able to locate online a free copy of the service manual to check voltages etc.

Clean the lens this model has as already explained.

A fairly old model is listed here(KP-61v85) this answer is based on that model number:If the set has not been serviced for a long time with set unplugged remove rear cover and locate (hard to miss) the three large black lens at top of chassis--clean the lens with a lens cloth or a paper towel with glass cleaner sprayed on the towel.If the lens are dusty/dirty they will diminish the brightness and clarity of the the picture---they are the light source for the picture in this set.

Did you check the 6 pico fuses on the D board and also the 2 pico fuses on the g board. Usually one on each board will require replacement with the new ICs. Then just pressing the perfect focus should reset the convergence after the picos have been tested and the blown ones replaced.

The lamp is dead most likely. the blinking is actually coded as a message depending on the number of blinks. if you check the troubleshooting section of the manual it will tell you what the blinks mean

Remote sensor replacement is bit tricky job in Sony KP-61V85 tv.
Remote sensor is mounted on HC board that is located behind Sony logo at lower front, you need to remove front screen frame to replace HC board or remote sensor (D1291) on HC board if you have soldering parts experience.
Check following image of TV that indicates remote sensor position, HC board is fixed behind Sony Logo/ sign.

The tv have a problems is known as a convergence problems,it dead.The R,G,B colors lines mis alignment,have colors shadows or 3D pictures.The tv convergence board the 2 STK convergence ICS and some or all it resitors are dead.These parts on the tv convergence board,must be replaced to solved tv picture convergence problems.The shop,will cost u $300-350 for parts and labors.

Before I present my solutions to you, If I may,....

would like to know , what other things except unplugging

have you done inside the TV.


Secondary to that , we might be having a series of voltage

measurement , test to verify and confirm that the said

Convergence IC which you are talking really needs replacement.


I will be needing the necessary voltages later, if you feel you can work

on these circuits, starting from the power supply.



Your TV inside have a built in microcomputer that detects faults at

starts-up and will force the Power Supply Circuits to fail

to work in a Normal Mode if problem is detected.


TV troubleshooting can be confusing and at times dangerous , So you

must have a copy of the service Manual when preparing

to work first time on these Circuits.


Here are some of major components inside the TV, Flyback

transformer and Horizontal Output Transistor.


the link above may not be literally like your unit, but the principle

is the same.


if those above will not work , such as there is no oscillation,

Replacing the Convergence IC is a way too far.

you may need to check for G2 voltages, 200V line , heater voltage

Thanks for using FixYa. From what you have described it seems that you have to replace the convergence IC and also check the power resistor, if values are not exact you have to replace them. These ICs are located behind the black heat sink; you can see once you open the back off the TV. Also, the convergence board should be checked for cracked solder joints and please make sure to check the resistors as if they are shot the ICs might blow again. All this is only recommended if you have electrical expertise and know how to solder/re-solder components, if not then you should get this done by a professional. The typical cost to get this fixed by a pro is around $300-$350. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Power supply board have problems,just not dead yet.Replaced the power supply board,will solved this problems.Tries websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a refurbish power supply board for the replacement.

Is it possible to strip and get behind and give it a good clean with meythlated spirits ,if access can be gained then this and does work beleave me ,done enough on the local bars around here because smoking is still permitted here in spain and the nicotine build up really dims the pictures.although now they have changed to flat screens because they need less space.
