Sony big screen tv model# kp-53v80
It can be just an adjustment of your screen control. There is a "sweet spot" on the control where it allows the picture to come through. This is a common problem with sets that are getting old. If there is a problem with the high voltage from the color tubes then it will shut down the video until the problem is gone and it is safe again to show the picture. This is known as going into a shutdown procedure to protect the set. A technician will be needed to fix your problem since it will require proper troubleshooting and knowledge of high voltage system and safety procedures.

Sounds like one of the tubes is shorting out causing the set to go into a shutdown status so it won't cause any major damage to the set or house.
I have a sanyo hd
It can be any number of problems at this time early in the troubleshooting process. It can be a simple problem or complicated but since its a big screen and Sanyo doesn't replace boards, it will be an expensive repair just because troubleshooting it to a component level takes some time. But more information will be needed to give a more precise answer.
Selective "non-convergence" issues
Sounds like to may have a yoke loose on a tube. If it's not that, you may have somehow damaged the convergence board. Look for any cracks in the board. If you find any, solder across the beaks and it should be fine. Good luck and I hope this has helped in some way

i have a sony kp-53v80 i have a double vision or red lines on the left side of the screen. a repair guy fix it once by using the remote and puting in a code that brought up a white grid and it showed the red was out of line and he moved it back in line and it only took a few seconds to fix ... how do i get to that grid using the remote
Blurry screen?
there are 3 things that will make your tv go blurry, the focus and screen control assembly , the high voltage splitter and the horizotal transformer and that is only if all three tubes are blurry.if only one tube is blurry, more than likely the tube itself is bad.

It's not a digital hi-def tv, so you either need a cable/sat box..or a converter once hi-def goes in and analog stops.
Top, bottom, and sides of screen are blurry
Hello there,
Being a practical technician I would assist you technicaly.
Please find G-Board in your TV and replace IC1502 & IC1506 (STK392-150)
Before replacement of above said ICs, check follwoing Fuses (PS1501-1502-1503-1504-1505 & 1506) all are 2A rating. If you have VOM (Volt Meter) then confirm +15Volt & -15Volt supply on G board. If you need further help, I can provide with pictures of related circuit portion.
Cobweb hanging inside screen
OK I DID IT I WAS AFRAID TO OPEN IT , BUT IT IS SO EASY IF YOU DO IT LIKE I DID IT , FIRST UNPLUGGED EVERYTHING WITH THE TV , TRY IT IN OPEN SPACE AND WITH LIGHT , UNSCREW ALL THE SCREWS FROM THE BLACK COVER IN THE REAR OF THE SET ONE BY ONE THE USUALLY HAVE AN ARROW MARK POINTING TO THE HOLE, INCLUIDING IN THE BOTTON OF THE COVER , ALSO UNSCREW THE OTHER SCREWS FROM THE RECTANGULAR COVER TOO THE ONE THAT HAS THE HOLES FOR THE VENTILATION OF THE POWER SUPPLY, SO AFTER THA IT IS DONE , PULL OFF THE ONE WITH THE HOLES AND THEN THE BIG BLACK COVER PULL IT FROM THE MIDDLE AND BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO IT BECUSE IN THE INSIDE IT HAS A MIRROR ATTACH TO IT SO BE GENTLE WHEN YOU PUT IT DOWN , ONCE IS DOWN YOU CAN FLIP IT SO YOU CAN CLEAN IT . OK NOW YOU CAN SEE THE WHOLE BACK OF THE T.V. WITH A CLEAN PAPER TOWEL YOU CLEAN IT . THEN PUT IT BACK TOGETHER USE WATER ONLY , GOOD LUCK

Heres how you get into the service menu. BUT be very careful write down anything that you change as this can screw your set up and if you write down everything you will be able to change it back if it affects your set. You may want to consider getting the service manual which will explain all the details on the convergence adjustments. If so let me know and I will post a link where you can get one along with free tech support to help you out with it.
Put the TV in Standby Mode.
Then press the following buttons on the remote:
{DISPLAY} {5} {VOL+} {POWER}
or
{DISPLAY} {5} {POWER}
or
{DISPLAY} {5} {PICTURE} {POWER}
or
{DISPLAY} {5} {VOL+} {PICTURE} {POWER}
The TV will turn on with the Service Menu displayed.
Use numbers {1} and {4} to select the item to adjust.
Use numbers {3} and {6} to adjust the value of the data.
Press {MUTE} then {ENTER} to save new settings.
The words "WRITE" in red will show up in the upper right corner if saved.
Turn the TV off to exit the service menu.
Lines in picture
You may have to re-adjust the screen drive. It sounds as though it may be just a bit high. If it's not that, you may be getting a bad picture tube. I hope this has helped in some way.

yes most likely it shorted out your hori transistor and you may have a bad FBT.flyback transformer.
Shuts off
like most sonys they have a 1200pf 2kvolts cap behind or near hori output transistor that goes bad.
Blue convergence on KP-53V80
replace both of your STKs 392-120s.these are your convergence ics , I always replace with 392-180s better ics.this will fix your problem.
