DEAR SIR PICTURE NOT CLEAR WHEN TUN TV ON BECOME CLEAR AFTER 15 M

Try connecting any other device to the TV to confirm the issue. Try resetting the TV to the factory settings.
Try connecting the TV directly to a different wall outlet and check. If the issue persists, try power resetting the TV. Turn Off the TV and remove the power plug from the wall outlet for 1 minute and reconnect it and check the operation. If the issue persists, then the TV requires service.

Sony rear video projector.KP-53S65. Turned on the

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projeciton sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

e87380c.jpg
Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right. And you should be able to get the grid straight.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a fix

69189a5.pngCONVERGENCE SOLUTION

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you are handy and can follow directions. You can get complete repair kits from TvRepairKits.com or click here. They have put together DIY repair kits that include the OEM parts and step by step photo instructions for each repair. If you are not handy or can't follow directions we would suggest a shop.

I HAVE A SONY KP-53S65 PROJECTION TV AND I HAVE NO

A lot of times when that problem happens, its most likely not the lamp, when the lamp is the issue you can still hear a sound on your TV but no picture, most likely where looking at a problem with your power supply board or ballast, there might be something wrong with them that keeps from sending voltage to the lamp and audio parts, but on the other hand if you wish to change your lamp, depending on the model it can be on the back or sides of the TV, there is a little door with 4 screws that leads to the housing where the lamp is, you just need to pull out the housing and take it apart, its a actually a very easy task, you can have it done in like 5 min. an easier way is to purchase the whole lamp with the housing and just pull the old one and insert the new one in, less than 5 min!! If you have any other question don't hesitate on asking.

KP-53S65 Blue Ghosting

The most likely cause is shorted convergence chips and possibly a few pico fuses.

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer2_bing.gif Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get a convergenece repair kit with instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Problem #2
Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

I have a 53 inch sony made in 2000. the blue is

If by blue shadows you mean that the colors are not lining up, then I can help you as I have seen this problem before and have repaired hundreds of sets with this symptom.
If you try to adjust convergence with the flash focus, perfect focus, (depending on the make of your set) or by manual convergence and the lines will not line up or even move.
What you might be experiencing based on this symptom sounds like a damaged convergence IC.
With that aside I have some support suggestions that I have put together that may help you make an informed decision.

You should be able to get a local service center to repair this at your house for between $350.00 - $450.00, If you want to repair this set yourself, I have some instructions below that will be a help to you.
While it is not a very hard repair, this repair can be a bit tricky. If you have a 45W soldering iron, solder, solder wick, and heat sink compound you can repair it yourself.

When you remove the old IC's, please be sure to remove all of the old heat sink compound, as it can act as an insulation for the new IC's and cause them to overheat. I usually clean the heat sinks with alcohol and a small rag.

There are two and large IC’s that control the convergence in a big screen set. Some of the newer sets only have one. If you only have one, it is right in the middle of the set on the center circuit board. They are secured to a very large aluminum heat sink. They will have a part number stamped on them that will start with an STKXXX-XXX, like STK392-110.

Along with the convergence IC’s there will also be some associated components that will need to be replaced as well. There are some resistors that are part of the convergence circuit that will be open and need to be replaced. Most likely these will appear charred in the center. If you have an Ohm Meter or a DVM, check all the resistors that are close to the IC’s and you should be looking for either ones that have opened or have changed values.

If one of the convergence IC’s are found to be bad, I would replace them both, if one has gone bad the other may go soon. I usually order my parts from Andrews Electronics in California, they will have the OEM components that you will need.
Their site is
http://www.andrewselectronics.com/welcome.aspx
And their phone number is a 24-Hour Order Desk: (800) 274-4666
I recommend the phone order so you can talk to the person about the different types of IC’s that are available.

I would also advise that the convergence IC’s be OEM or better, just because they are cheap does not mean that they are a good deal. I have seen the cheap IC’s fail after a short time, even though they look exactly like the OEM IC’s. I think that the bottom line is that you will get what you pay for when it comes to the parts.

You can also try
http://www.tvrepairkits.com/ , I have not tried them yet, but they do carry OEM or better parts.

With any Projection Television that has a damaged convergence IC, you do not want to continue the use of the set. If the IC’s continue to fail they will cause a short in the power supply and cause your television to not power up, and possibly damage the CRT’s in the set.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.
If you need further assistance please comment to this post and I will try to help you further.

Thanks for using FixYa
asnowman

I have attached some photos of really bad convergence problems; your picture may not be exactly as bad as these.

Sony rear projection tv showing double

If you have a CONVERGENCE problem and it will not adjust---the two STK-392-150 Chips this set uses need to both be replaced and the set adjusted with the original remote control.

You can, if you are able to do the repair, buy a pair of chips for less than 14 dollars plus shipping on Ebay.

If you cannot do the repair--shop around your area--most shops are going to charge 300 or more for this kind of repair.

When you consider the cost of the parts--if you can do it or know someone who can--you can save the set and a lot of money--This repair can easily be done right in your home in about 1 hour--I know as I have done hundreds of them---did two today.

The chips (with the back off of the set) should be on two metal heat sinks on the board on the far left---they will be facing the front of the set.

All that is required to get at them is to remove all the plugs on that board and the screws that hold it in and tilt it up so the bottom of the board is in view---you unsolder both chips (about 18 pins each) and remove the 2 screws that hold each to a heat sink.

With 2 new chips you put heat sink compound on the back of each--it is a white grease to move heat quickly from the chip to the metal, and solder both chips in----put the board back down and all the plugs back(I usually mark all of them so I know where they go) and turn the set on and see what you have...

Most of the time this repairs the set--go into the customer menu and adjust the convergence and you are ready for another 5-8 years of life---this is the normal lifespan of these chips.

If you need assistance or have questions let me know--I am here to help people.

If this information helped you, rate this solution as I do this here for free.

My kp 53s65 picture seems to be darker now than

KP53S65 is a rear projection Sony several years old--It is not a DLP and does not have a bulb--it has three picture tubes---if the set has not been serviced in a long time here is what you can do to try to improve it:

1.) Unplug set
2.) Remove back cover
3.) You will see 3 black lens (one for each tube)
4.) With a paper towel (spray glass cleaner on it) clean the dust from the three lens---if they have not been cleaned in a long time and have dust on them the picture will be darker and less distinct.

5.) Replace back cover and plug set in to see if this has helped----I have seen some where there was so much dust on the lens that it looked 50% better after just cleaning the lens--depending on area you live in--should be cleaned once a year.

I do this here for free so if this has helped you please take a minute to give me a vote here.

Timer light is blinking in front and there is no video or sound

The TV is on protect mode.

Try first leaving the TV power cord unplugged for some times, let say one hour or so.

Also ensure that the fault is not coming from a faulty receiver box sending bad signal, check if you get same problem with no receiver box or dvd connected.

If that does not work, and you keep having a flashing led on front of the TV, and tv turning off by itself after a while, that indicates a fault condition.

The flashing light indicates a diagnostic state called protection.
When the TV goes on protection there are only two possible reasons.

1The internal circuits are jammed because of electrostatic charges accumulating on capacitors, or because of a wrong voltage read by the main chip on your monitor controller board. this started the protection circuit.

2 The protection circuit detected a wrong voltage or abroken contact, identified an internal fault and kicked in , startingthe flashing light.

If you are in situation one, then theTV will reset just unplugging power cord for one or two hours, sometimes even minutes.

If you are in situation 2 , then there is an internal fault.

Common faults that can occur are a blown capacitor on power board, a convergence IC has blown, or a fault on Digital board.

Check also the video cable or any external connection cable, if the cable is shorting, or the connector is bad, you can get same flashing state because of the video cable.

If under warranty contact the manufacturer ringing the number on the user manual

If you want to repair at your own expenses, just locate any good qualified repairer.
