you need to replace the convergence ic'S inside the unit

One of the Convergence IC's most likely shorted and that is the pop you heard. Is best to replace both and check micro fuses supplying + & - dc voltage to the chips. Also check the resistors in front of the IC's as they discolor or burn & change value.

Not a problem Gayla, get on the NESDA web site and research a reputable shop from there.. http://www.nesda.com/locator/state_search.php It does sound like the convergence amps (IC's) are the fault. Could be that they have some poor solder connections and the ride in the truck excited the problem. In either event you probably want to have them replaced because if they've been arcing it's likely stressed the IC's close to failure. That unit takes the STK 392-150 but ask them to install the STK392-180 IC's instead. That will give you more reliability and greater tolerance to heat. And one more thing, Sanyo makes the STK line make sure you confirm with the shop to use ONLY Sanyo and not some Japanese knock-offs.

it's called retrace lines ,your screens are set to high or focus block assy which has the screen adjustments on it also is faulty

I don't know if this will help you but I just experienced a similiar problem with a sony kp-53s35.
It turns out that a fluid leaked out of a rubber boot on one of the guns( I have no idea what the fluid is or why it is corrosive), down to a circuit board and started to desolve a jumper wire. when it had eaten away enough of the wire, the residue or solution was conductive enough to cause an arc to a ground bus bar that ran along the circuit board. The TV still worked but would crack and pop like firecrackers inside.
I was able to increase the distance to the ground source by bending the bar away. Then I scraped and scrubbed the board with contact cleaner to remove residue and replaced jumper wire.
Has worked fine since.

sounds like 2 different problems here. first problem sounds tuner related. second sounds convergence related. third issue (cost effective to repair ?) at this point i would replace the set. i hope this helps

sounds like it is probably worth trying to degauss check this excellent site; http://woil.ws/fixmonitor/ for details of how to try this on the cheap - it works If it doesnt solve your problem, the fact that you are getting different quality from different crt s suggests that they could be the root cause - see if you can get the part number, and get a price you may find it is cheap enough to be worth trying - check also the power supply - poor voltage output can sometimes cause these type of symptoms. Hope this helps, if not post again - some of the other guys know tvs much better than me :)

With a set that old, it is unlikely you'll get the convergence that close to perfect anyway. You may even make it worse if you go too far in your adjustments. How you could manage to even watch it after looking at a HD set is beyond me anyhow. I would sell it "as is" and stick with HDTV.

much to my suprise these tubes need to be re-juvenated with a crt shooter. this does not bode well with the so called king o the hill (sony). although after re-juvenating the tubes seem to hold up rather well.

C514 has three different values possible. Just use this value as it has worked fine for me in the past. 680pf /2kv Sony part# 1-162-116-00

While the root of the problem is likely the picture tubes aging, I'm sure it would benefit from a cleaning and adjusting. After the dust is cleaned from the lenses, the screen controls could likely be lowered to get the blacks you desire. An experienced tech would be able to do this for you.

Check out Ceramic Capacitor C514 by the horiz. output transistor (burned/shorted?) My question is how do you find the specs of the capacitor and where do you buy one?

take the back off oh unplug it first and then read the label that says no user serviceable parts inside its kinda like the tag on pillows the three delta lenses can be cleaned with a soft cloth dampened with windex they are an optical grade of plastic like the screen so all those caveats apply if you are really brave you can take the lense assemblies off and clean (gently the concave) portion of the top of the crts they are filled with coolant and should be treated with care if you are really brave use windex on the plate glass mirror if you are nice to your tv it will look real good when you get done it will look even better if you know how to refocus the focus block and the screen controls all the home theater dvds wont make up for zen and the art of projo maintenance

1St. need to konw how many times the light bilks, it sould bilk a # of times then a short pause then repeat the # of bilnks again & again. The number of blinks is a an error code to help locate the cause of a fault. it is not allways accurate, but it's usually right. give the # of bliks & i will try to get you into the right circuit.

start with convergence ic's probably stk 392-130 big black chip's on an alluminum heat sink. mark ALL connections with majic marker. check for bad solder connections. for god's sake be carefull

Its a common convergence problem here it sounds like.. These are IC's that are soldered int place and are standing up against a heat sink.. if your good at soldering, you should have No problem.. they stand up and start with STK . if you have no solid state experience,please call out a pro to assist you in this repair Please dont forget ti rate this

This TV is 10 years old and probably requires a service that replaces the backlight invertor or just a power supply issue. Check to see if the light blinks. (That is the fault code and then google the result for more information).
