Better Focus

There are several factors that can contribute to getting better focus and improved results. 1. Auto Focus / Auto Exposure lock. Press the shutter button down HALF WAY. The camera will attempt to adjust exposure to the current lighting environment for maximum benefit. Then the camera will automatically correct the focus based on objects in the center of the display. This process usually takes about two to three seconds. 2. Be sure not to cover the sensor on the front of the camera with your finger. This will disable the automatic focus and exposure controls. 3. Only us the MACRO MODE for CLOSE-UP photography. Be sure to use MACRO MODE if you are taking pictures of an object at less than six inches away. Be sure not to use Macro Mode for Normal Photography. Using MACRO MODE improperly will result in poor focus (also known as 'fuzzy pictures'). 4. Motion can cause a "blur" effect. Either motion of the subject, or motion by the photographer. This phenomenon is just like traditional photography. Moving objects may appear to blur, and this will be even more evident in lower lighting situations as the shutter speed slows down to allow for more light. The shutter will react faster in bright light, and motion will not be as apparent.

Using Flash

The Flash is useful up to approximately six feet, after which distance the light is less effective. The Flash is good for close subjects in low light. The Flash is not good to use when taking pictures in large rooms with low light or night / evening scenes. When the Flash is used, the shutter speed is automatically faster to compensate for the light from the flash. This means less natural light through the lens. This can cause dark images in large rooms or evening scenes. In this case, TURN OFF THE FLASH and allow the shutter speed to automatically slow down to adjust for natural light. Your images will be more bright. Be careful, slower shutter also means more potential for blur from motion by you or your subjects.

Optical / Digital Zoom

Press the "T" for telephoto and get closer to the subject. Optical telephoto zoom is like using a telescope to get closer to the subject before taking the picture. With optical Telephoto zoom you can maintain the full resolution and quality. After you have used all of the optical Telephoto range, the camera will continue to enhance the image with Digital Zoom. This enhances the image inside the camera by reducing the resolution and expanding fewer pixels to fill the same image space. Use the "W" Wide-angle button to back-up away from the subject or get a bigger area into your picture. You can even ZOOM IN on a picture in the playback mode for a better look at the details. Touch the Magnifying Glass Icon. Use the Arrow Keys to move around the display area.

Card Error

please check the following: Always choose reliable quality SD Cards. Toshiba Digital Cameras are tested for maximum performance with Toshiba SD Cards, Delkin SD Cards and Panasonic SD Cards. These are leading brands in the development of standard SD technology. Performance by other brands of SD cards may vary. Check the LOCK switch on the SD Card. The camera can not save images to an SD Card when it is in the lock protected position. If the SD Card is NEW, it may be necessary to FORMAT the card. This only applies to NEW SD Cards. If you format a card with images, all images will be erased. You can FORMAT your card periodically to maximize capacity and erase 'unseen' files, please be sure to download all images before choosing FORMAT as all images will be erased. Your Toshiba Digital Camera is designed for use with SD Cards. MultiMedia Cards are similar in size and shape to SD Cards, although with close inspection you will find that SD Cards have a different 'PIN" connection configuration, are slightly thicker in size, and have a manual slide LOCK switch on the side. Toshiba Digital Cameras are not designed or guaranteed to accept MultiMedia Cards. Please be sure to look for SD Cards from Toshiba, Panasonic and Delkin, the leaders in SD Card Technology.

My Toshiba Camileo HD-DV Camcorder won't focus

If your Toshiba Camileo HD-DV camcorder is not focusing properly, there are a few potential causes and solutions to try:
  • Check that the lens is clean and free from any smudges or fingerprints. Even a small amount of dirt or debris on the lens can affect the focus. If the lens is dirty, try cleaning it with a lens cleaning solution and a microfiber cloth.
  • Make sure the lens is not blocked by any foreign objects, such as the hood of a camera bag or the edge of a cap.
  • Try adjusting the focus manually using the focus ring on the lens. If the focus ring is not responding or is difficult to turn, the lens may need to be serviced.
  • Make sure your camcorder firmware is up to date. Check Toshiba website to see if there is any update available and instructions on how to update.
  • Make sure the camera is not in macro mode. Some cameras have a separate macro mode that enables the camera to focus on objects that are very close. If you are not trying to take close-up shots, you may need to switch out of this mode.
  • Make sure the scene is well lit. Low light can make it more difficult for the camera to focus, try adding more light to the scene or use the manual focus.
If none of the above steps work, it is possible that the camera's autofocus system may be malfunctioning and will need to be repaired. It's best to contact Toshiba customer service or a local camera repair shop for a diagnosis and estimate for repair if the issue persists
