Sony KP-57HW40 57" Rear Projection Television - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
1 Answer
Kp57hw40 is a greenish color
If green appears to bleed out of objects then it's probably the saturation level is to high. If that doesn't work you can try changing the Hue setting more towards red and away from green.
If neither works and you don't have a warranty I would call your a local TV repair company.

Sony rear projection kp-577hw40, screen turns red after being on for 10 minutes
This model and some others had bad picture tubes that are no longer available---there is an option here.
If screen gets bright red, green, or blue set will shut down as it detects too much current being drawn.
Seen over 100 with this issue--what can be tried and usually will help is a physical adjustment inside the set.
No parts to replace and takes about 15 minutes to do.
I can tell you how if you want to know.

How do I replace a convergence amp?
I can assist here--if the model here is correct this set uses two of the stk-392-560 chips---they will be on the deflection board--see photos.
involved is getting the board up (do not need to remove) and some fairly tricky soldering--parts cost should be under 30 dollars--SUBURBAN ELECTRONICS--is place I buy from.
Requires some mechanical skill and soldering skills--willing to help but the question is are you able?
SD TECH

above chip is typical and there will be two with different number than this one.

Again, a similar photo and not exact but chips will be on the sink with fins that looks somewhat like this one.

Sony KP-57WS5610 Blue light will not converge the blue is offset from everything else on the screen so its like a blue shadow Any ideas on whats wrong
Projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Below are more details for both items. Also, complete repair kits with instructions and repair support are avail from site such as www.TvRepairKits.com
Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out
Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then yourconvergence is broken and needs to be repaired.
This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.
Common Symptoms include....
- Screen looks 3D
- Colors don't line up
- One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
- Screen is bowed or warped.
- TV shuts off after powering on. The power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.
SOLUTION #1What you will need to do is convergence. You can get a repair kit fromTvRepairKits.com . It includes replacement parts, step by step instructions, support, etc.Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy
Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images. Picture of a set that needs the fluid changed.

SOLUTION
What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from TvRepairKits.com . It includes replacement coolant, step by step instructions, support, etc.

The picture on my Sony kp57hw40 has bluish hue to
I have first some information for you and then a possible solution.
A lot of these sets had problems with the 3 picture tubes---blue seems to be the most common--if you go to a unused video input and see anything other than Input 1 etc like blue background or even blue curved faint lines do not despair.
There is a fairly easy way to adjust this (not with the remote) I can tell you the procedure and it requires no parts and only moderate skill.
May I assist you here?

I have a Sony KP-53V85 Rear Video Projector TV.
Hello.
It's the problem of overheating in the power supply board of the TV.on the power supply board of the tv there are few capacitors and IC.any of this ic is got short or may be weak.so due to this when you start the TV the current passes from electric outlet to the power supply board of TV.but when the current passes from that weak/faulty part at that time current gets stopped or slow and the board overheats and TV shuts off. this is a common problem faced by many other users too.the possible option to solve this issue is to check the power supply board by a meter and continuity tester and replace the faulty component on the board which is short due to which power supply board is getting overheated.its bit technical job but yes its not at all a costly repair to do or get it done by the technician. for required parts it can be easily available from local electronic hardware shop.
if otherwise, power supply board is dead, u know basic electronics' and soldering? Most of the times, the power supply board just have dead leakages gases capacitors. These capacitors always bulges up on it top,or puff up on it top.Replaced these gases leakages capacitors will get your TV power stable, and work again.Or tries websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a whole refurbish power supply board for the replacement.
Hope this will help to solving the problem...
