Main screen showing "no signal"

KP-43HT20 has 2 tuners, one is main (TU2) and 2nd is called sub tuner (TU1). Both tuners are mounted on A board located on right side of TV.
In my opinion, main tuner (TU2) is not working and causing No Signal message.
Let me know if you want to repair tv by yourself.to provide you more technical info.

Red and green curved lines when the screen is dark

Your convergence board is going out. this will have to be replaced. i would take a look at the main logic board as well. it could have minor point breakage.

It wont stop shutting off!

You can try the suggestion on the site I posted below. This site addresses a specific problem that tends to be fairly common in some Sony sets. Only try this if your sure that the problem your having is the same problem described in the site. Look at the picture of the screen on the site and see if that looks like your screen. The set on the site is red but it could be Green or Blue also. If you set won't stay on, you may have to turn the appropriate knob down slightly in order to get the set to stay on. Although he mentions this will fix a convergence problem, the fix described has nothing to do with convergence. The symptoms you are describing do not sound like a convergence issue. I am however a little concerned about the smell. Another thing is, after the set shuts off the Led will blink a code. For example it may flash 8 times then pause and repeat. You can Google this to find out more info on the problem. Many things can go wrong with TV's, I recommend you do as much research as you can to narrow it down. Good luck, here is the site.

How much would it cost me to replace the picture

A CRT (picture tube) for an RCA projection TV will cost $300-400 If the TV is more than 4-5 years old, you'll likely have to replace all 3 CRTs to obtain a watchable picture. Its probably not a good idea to spend that kind of money on a "free" TV.

Double image

Your TV most likely has one of two possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Picture of a set that needs the fluid changed.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.

Dull colors

Remove the back panel and the inside panel which slides out on a track so you can get to the 3 crt lenses. Clean the dust off of the lenses with a soft lint free cloth, such as a camera lens cloth. You should be able to find one at a camera store or Radio Shack. Clean with a safe glass cleaner NOT WINDEX. Be sure not to scratch the lenses.

Sony

ok.

this problem is usually related to the power to the blue gun. (this is a little complicated, even for a TV tech). it provides the blue overlay for the image.

you can also try to unplugg the cable for at least 4 hours, then it will (usually) reset all the voltages.

the last thing you can do is call a repair technitian to check the solder joints if they are "cold soldered", the circuit boards are defective or if there is a short. This should only be attempted if you are EXPERIENCED in electronics. the average cost to have a tech come and fix it is $400+ AND even then he/she will recommend sending the TV to a repair center, which then adds transportation cost. That may not be an option, considering there are new TVs out that cost double of the repair.

These are the logical solutions to your problem. If these do not appeal to you, Sony can also help you at 1-800-222-7669 or 1-888-772-7669 or https://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/contact-email.pl?

Hope this helps
