It's most likely that the automatic digital convergence system is messed up, without knowing more. You can read this article & see if you can fix it yourself:http://www.somelifeblog.com/2007/06/sony-projection-tv-red-line-repair.htmlTo replace the convergence system, you'd be paying over $400.

Sony kp-57hw40 convergence line up steps

Jake, this is something that I can help you with. First you are going to have to get a pattern generator and get a crosshatch on the screen. I bought a test DVD that has all the patterns that can be used. You will have to do a static convergence with the convergence rings on the CRT's. Be carefull, because Sony puts two different types of rings on the neck of the CRT. One is for static convergence and the other is for the focus of the lens. Once you have that done you can get into the service menu and tweak the convergence using the internal generator in the convergence menu. Please let me know if this helps, and if you need any further help with the menus.

Yellow dot about the size of a nickel that appears on the center of the screen. Any help as to what causes this or how to go about correcting?

You probaly have a phosphor burn in the center of the blue picture tube. Solution is to replace the tube or have it rebuilt.

The screen has blue green green, red outlines how

This might be a convergence issue. I can tell you that the site that Jean posted will not fix this problem and could even make things worse. That sight pertains to a specific problem that is common in some Sony sets and should not be used to try to fix any other issue.

Please keep in mind many things can go wrong with TV sets and you should really do a lot of research before attempting any adjustment and or repair. There are high voltages present and they can reside even when the set is unplugged.

Wavy green lines when picture is black

Check out this site. These TV's are known for the CRT's going bad. This site shows how to make adjustments that could help extend the life of your set. Take a look at the first picture, if the lines look like the ones in the picture this site "should" help. The picture shows a problem with the red but don't worry about the color, look at the lines. I hope this helps.

Sony KP75HW40 unstable red. (not the usual problem)

I would suggest either the Focus block or the RED CRT drive board either one of those items could cause the symptom. A defective CRT could also, but a shorted CRT doesnt usually go back to being normal

Green and red lines

Your TV most likely a convergence failure. ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

0667c5f.pngSOLUTION

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses. Its a fairly easy DIY job or you can call in a pro. If you want to do the repair yourself check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, thermal paste, email/phone support, etc.

I have a Sony KP-57WV600 with a similar problem

I have the same set, I was able to get the set working doing what was suggested on the site I posted below. Unfortunately I have other problems now. These sets are notorious for having failing CRT's (Guns, Tubes). These adjustments "should" help you buy more time out of the set. Sony doesn't make the CRT for these TV's any longer. You can get refurbished ones for around 200.00. Keep in mind there are 3. It is not really worth it, not to mention the time it takes to do the adjustments on the new tubes. If the set won't stay on long enough to do the adjustment, back the appropriate color knob back slightly then try again. I hope this helps.

My screen turns green and then turns off

you need to adjust the screen voltage. behind the front grille and inside cover. a small black box 6 adjusters protruding from it. only adjust the the color counterclockwise that matches the problem in this case it's the green so look for the knob with "G" marked by it. there are 2 with "g" marked by them the row across the top of the box are for focus don't adjust. back the knob off untill the raster is blank with your input set to an inactive input, the picture should be blank and black.
when it is you have the adjuster close to where it should be, now change the input to an active signal and turn the color off so that you wil have black and white picture. adjust that knob untill you do have a truely black and white picture not too green or red or blue. go back to inactive video input and check that there are no lines of any color on the screen. repeat if needed. always adjust these knobs slowly the set will be watching you ! if your autofocus won't work now you have the adjustment set too low. check this function before putting back together again. these adjustments can be real touchy so be patient
