Picture too big for screen.

My Sony KDF E42 remote has a "wide" button that lets me scroll thru normal, zoom( too big), wide, and wide zoom. If yours has a simmilar button, try that. Otherwise try Googleing the owner's manual buy brand & model. Good luck.

Blue tint on bottom of screen

I have the same KDF60XS955 sony and have the same problem. I called sony customer support and was told there was a recall on the optical block for this tv. But the recall ended in Dec. of 2008. I was upset that they did not call or send out a notice to me. They should of had my information because I had a different issue that they sent someone out to fix a few years ago. They said it was an expensive fix, like over 1000 dollars. Instead of fixing it they offered me a deal on a smaller tv, a 52 inch sony. I could buy that one at a discount which is about 1100 dollars. I told them that I thought that was the worst deal I have ever heard of. Why would I spend about 4000 dollars for a tv 4 years ago only to be told that I could buy a smaller one today for 1100 dollars more. I said if I bought that 52 inch tv today, what would happen 4 years from today, am I going to be offered an even smaller one for more money again? I thought I was buying a top of the line tv back then, I only wished it would have lasted longer than this. Not happy!

I have a convergence problem.

did you check the power to the IC's ... normally when either one of the IC's burn out it takes out the power supply ..... make sure there is both a positive and a negative supply present there ... possibly + and - 28 volts or so .... if any of the voltages are missing ,check the 5 amp fuses that look like little green resistors on the power supply board ... that should solve your problem ....

Replace ICs on Sony CRT

Since the IC's need to be unsoldered from the board you should have a professional servicer do it for you, there is always a chance of lifting a solder trace. If that occurs then you will have major problems.

SONY TV PROBLEM

Do not adjust any knobs as instucted in the previous thread if you TV have a convergence problem. Doing so will only make things worse. The blog does however show you how to fix other common problems with these sets.

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Convergence lines are SLANTED. Red line is above

did you check the six 3.5 pico fuses that are next to the ICs? They will often be open ( blown) when the ICs fail. Also check the two 5 amp IC protectors on the G board as those protect the two ICs so its possible they have blown also a 5 amp pico can be substituted for the two IC protectors.

Screen is bowed in or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence or magic focus section.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Picture of a set that needs the fluid changed.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.

Concaved picture and coloring off

This is a convergence problem that could be as simple as poor solder connections at the convergence ICs. If you can solder and are comfortable working inside the set where there are potentially dangerous high voltages even when unplugged, you can fix this yourself. Let me know if you wish to attempt the repair and I'll provide more details.,

Sony Wide Screen Projection TV 46"

Can you post a picture of what the screen looks like? It could be convergence amps or a pincushion problem. The pic would help clarify the diagnosis.
