The STANDBY light is flashing on the television and there is no picture or sound. Solution
The STANDBY light will flash if an issue is detected within the television. This can sometimes be resolved by simply following the steps below to reset the television.

1. Turn off the television. IMPORTANT: For a projection television that uses an internal lamp, wait 5 minutes after turning off the television to allow the lamp to cool before continuing with the following steps.
   
2. Unplug the television power cord from the electrical outlet.
3. Let the television remain without power for 60 seconds.
4. Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet. NOTE: If the television is plugged into a power strip or surge protector, remove it from the power strip or surge protector and plug it directly into the wall outlet. If the issue is resolved, the problem is with the power strip or surge protector and not the television.
   
5. Turn on the television.

If the issue is still unresolved after following all of the troubleshooting steps, service may be required. Please note the number of times the STANDBY light flashes and relay that information to the service center.

3 times, Diagnosis: +B overvoltage (OVP). Possible causes: IC501 is faulty (G board), IC5002 is faulty (G board). Symptoms of the problem: TV has entered standby mode. got this off a website that had Sony codes listed.

This can be as simple as poor solder connections at the convergence ICs or defective ICs. If you can solder you can fiz this yourself. Let me know if you wish to attempt the repair and I'll suply additional details and instructions.

does it continue to turn off then on by itself? Does the led flash if you try to power it back on again when it shuts off. If so how many times does it blink? Please respond to this same post when responding.

I tested all six pico fuses (3.5 A) and all tested fine on the continuity test. Is there something else I could check?

the repair guy is trying to save you some grief, when iv'e seen this in the past they are usually not worth trying to fix as that coolant is rather hard to clean out- nearly impossible to get all of it.

Double images and colors are blurry .Blue,red and yellow wave coming up from the bottom of the screen on the lower left symptom is for busted convergence IC,you must replaced this IC in order that will works better again.STK 392-xxx ICs and it's associated resistor,this resistor automatically change value,can caused truoble even though you change the ICs.If you bring this to a service center they cost you $600 to $700,but if you buy the repair kit you can save more,don't wory it is very easy because there is intallation guide including in the repair kit. try to press the timer button repeatedly untill u see time 00 is desplayed may be u solve your problem if it is in sleep timer mode and if u managed to rset timer to 00 and the problem persist your tv has a high voltge problem it delay to charge the tube.

I don't have a listing for your specific model, but the ICs should be large, black and attached to a heatsink. They will be marked STKxxx. Open up the back and look for a large heatsink. Post the marking on the ICs and I'll confirm the parts.

I'm goig to guess that the images are different colors too. This would be a convergence problem. If you feel confortable changing a couple of ICs and soldering the pins, the cost should be between $25-$50 for parts. If you want to go ahead with this yourself, update this and I'll provide more details.

youre looking at about 300.00 for that board if its still available as the entire D board need to be replaced if you go that route. Go to this link as they can get you a prive on a new board or they also sell just the parts and provide free instructions on how to replace the Ics and resistors in the convergence section. heres the link, leave them an email with your model number and what your looking for.

t sounds like you may be getting some kind of interference. What make and model of surge protector/line conditioner are you using?
Have you tried unplugging the set for say 20 seconds after the set has been turned off and the fans have stopped? It just may stop the problem.

When you say the you see lines throughout the screen, are they uniformly spaced vertical lines of random colors?
