This is a classic example of a bad lamp. I realize that you replaced the lamp but the new one could be defective. Put the old lamp back in if it is available and worked at all before you replaced it. See what the set does then and if the red flashing light goes away. If you can't do that and know positively that the lamp is good then it could be the lamp ballast board. It is available at http://www.encompass.com and is not very hard to replace. Unplug the set, remove the lower back, you should see the board near the lamp. R&R the board, reassemble, and you should be done. If you need more help let me know. Thanks for using FixYa and for the generous rating.

the lamp may need to be replaced this is a symptom of a bad lamp

A "5" blink error on your set refers to one of two problems:

1. The ballast circuit board

2. The lamp.

If it were under warranty, I would replace both, and guarantee myself that the set would be fixed.

Sometimes, when the lamp fails, the ballast throws a "5" error. However, it is possible that is both parts are in need of replacement.

Pull your lamp and take a look at it. Is the surface cloudy? Is the lamp imploded? Is the filament broken?

If so, replace the lamp first. See how it holds up.

Did you replaced lamp recently in tv?
Symptom shows lamp is getting weak in result and tv requires replacement.
Lamp replacement procedure is easy and would be written in user manual.

try unplugging and plugging everything back in to break through corrosion to re-make a good contact

If it is a dlp set then it is your color will, slowing down.

well there is very expensive lamp. needs to be very carfuly on opening case. normaly is inside a box with fans, and metalic case around-it. You may find a screws on metalic plate, protecting lamp, there is very hot when working, and very brigt. inside is special lamp. Normaly sony is hard to find, but you can go to the specialized Lamps Store, to help you.
