Sony MDS-JE440 Mini Disc Player Questions & Answers
Our mds-je440 is not ejecting
Your loader is probably worn out, or you jammed a disc into it. Take off the cover, then take off the loader mechanism internal cover to remove the disc.I paid $250+ to get a loader rapaired professionally on a JA3ES and the repair did not last, I migrated to units with loader trays like the 20ES and the rare 50ES.Probably the best thing to do is to get another similar deck since the prices have fallen on most of these units, they are readibly available with anything you could need for minidiscs on ebay. The decks are more popular in Europe and Japan than in the USA.I recently had to buy a loader belt for a stuck loader tray on my 20ES, it will only work with the right sony band, your unit has no bands, so when the loader is bad you need to replace the entire loader mechanism. Most MD parts are available on eBay Germany, most sellers routinely ship to the USA.
Auto pause
Check out the manual for this unit at minidisc.org, you probably can download it for free most of them are there.

This is normally a repair job for a professional since the loader and the laser needs to be adjusted. You are probably better of getting another working unit similar to yours.Prodigital of Philadelphia does repairs, I spent $250 to get a loader replaced on a high end deck as an example, it is probebly cheaper and easier to ge a used one of the same model which works...
Problem with recording
It could be several things, do you have the slider on your disk set so it is not locked? It you still can't record one of the more likely problems is you have an old deck with a bad recording head. The recording heard are optical magnatic with a laser and a skating magnetic head riding the other side of the disc, so they are read write for up to 1,000 times....BUTThat head arrangement does not do so well if dirty or heaven forbid if it is dropped. If it appears to be recording and saving and you get a blank disc the recording hears are probebly bad I'm sorry to say...
Power
That is not a lot of information to go on, but I suspect there is a problem with the transport or heads which causes it to shut down. I've had similar instances with several of the MD Decks I've had.On any MD deck if the complex play/recording head which is optical magnetic gets messed up you are probably better off to just buy another unit. The best use for a MD Deck with a bad head is to use it as an analog to digital converter or vice versa; if it has sufficient inputs to do so (the inputs vary with the model).Sorry I can't be more specific with the limited information you have given. It is probably due to the stress of the head malfunctioning causing the shut down.

Have you checked your setup option for auto pause on / off? This may well be old hat for you but it's amazing how many folk don't know about it and it's none too prominent in the manual. I don't know the page off-hand and it probably varies with different models, but it's under edit / setup / auto-pause. Hope this is helpful.
Sony MDS-JE440 mini disc,single play
If there is a "PROGRAM" button, then you just turn on "program", rotate the knob to what track you want and then hit ENTER. Then when you hit 'play' it will only play back that track. You'll have to repeat this for every track or manually hit the PAUSE button between tracks if you program more than one.
Spontaneous MD erasure
Well, depending how the content was recorded, there may be a slim chance to recover the audio. To me it looks like TOC was not written successfully, effectively deleting the TOC.
You can try TOC cloning with this 'blank' MD using another MD player, but your track markers will be lost during the cloning. If it works, at best you will end up with ONE long track. Then you can edit and reset your track markers.
It may be also be a good idea, to try the JE440 carefully with junk content to make sure it still works ok when writing TOC. You may have an intermittent problem too. I'd be very careful editing MD in this unit until it has been confirmed the TOC writing works ok. You may want to check the over-write head assembly and the cable that connects it. Sometimes these cables develop hairline cracks causing intermittend write action.
Check out www.minidisc.org forum for TOC cloning.
Good luck recovering your audio.

My Sony model # MHC-V11 MAKES NO SOUND everything seems to operate but i cant get no sound from it
Troubleshoot this issue. Here are some steps you can follow:
Check Speaker Connections:
Ensure that the rear surround speakers are properly connected to the Audio/Video (A/V) receiver.
If applicable to your model, verify that the A/B speaker selector is set correctly. If the speakers are connected to the A speaker connection, the selector must be set to the A position.
Test Tone Operation:
Perform a test tone operation to check if the speakers are functioning correctly.
Increase the rear speaker volume or adjust the surround speaker settings to the maximum level.
Speaker Size Settings:
Try selecting a different size (small or large) for the rear surround speakers in the menu.
Surround Sound Mode:
Verify that the A/V receiver is set to a surround sound mode.
For Dolby ProLogic surround sound, ensure that the center-channel mode is set to NORMAL or WIDE.
If your source is a DVD or Blu-ray Disc player, check that surround sound is enabled in the player's menu.
The audio being received must be multi-channel.
Different Surround Sound Mode:
Try setting the A/V receiver to a different surround sound mode.
Source Content:
Verify that the source you are playing is encoded in surround sound.
Note that during periods of mainly dialog, most of the sound may come from the center speaker only, with audio coming out of the rear speakers when there is background or ambient noise.
Factory Reset:
Reset the unit back to factory default settings (consult your operating instructions for model-specific steps).
If applicable, follow the steps for calibrating the appropriate settings automatically after connecting the calibration microphone device.
Speaker Wires and Replacement:
Check and replace the speaker wires if necessary.
Consider connecting a different pair of speakers to see if the issue persists.
If you've tried these steps and the problem remains unresolved, I recommend seeking professional service.
