You're not likely to find a non-boxed-set control center amp that can safely drive 3-ohm speakers like yours.
HTIB's aren't meant to mix and match with anything. Proprietary speaker connections instead of stripped bare wire are a tip-off.
If you really like the speakers you could troll the auction sites for a new central unit.

Have you looked at page 57 of the manual?
Generally speaking, an amp attempts to protect itself from heat, shorts, overloads and operator exuberance by refusing to turn on or stay on.
Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.
You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.
If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.
If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.
Check for loose speaker connections at the speaker as a root cause for intermittent shutdown.
I got an Sony HCD
It could be down to the Region of the Player or the Laser is Failing. As it doesn't play CDs then I suspect the the Laser is Failing (almost failed if it plays a cleaner but not CDs).
CAN I HOOK THIS UP TO HD TV FEED WITH A PVR

If your PVR has an Optical Output then you will be able to hook that to your SONY DAV-S300. If it does not you will just be able to use the standard analog stereo connections. I included a picture of the Optical port on your SONY DAV-S300.

One source or many? Could be the source.
Make sure you have the correct input selected and MUTING is not on.
If the product is protecting itself disconnect all but one front speaker and see how that works out. If it starts working you need to isolate which one is/was the problem.
Is it possible to use
2010 September - Inexpensive Radioshack universal remote programmed all DVD functions - not the stereo - yet.
I have a sony dav-s300
A stereo 2 phono lead input from a sky box will have dolby pro logic surround info on it (when its a surround programme of course)
The Sony should then process this and give sound on the centre and rears too.
The DAVS300 does'nt have an optic/coax digital input so you can't have dolby digital from an external source- only from its own DVD player
Plays CDs, TV, Radio but
Hello,
the fault is from the laser lens of your player.
Get a lens cleaner and clean the lens. The lens is either dirty or weak, that's why it cannot play DVD because DVD is stronger.
Good luck.

HOW DO I GO IN TO ENGINEERING SET UP MOD ON A DAV
I found a posting by Jim on howtomendit.com that tells how to do this on this unit. With the system powered on, hold the muting and stop buttons on the front panel of the system, then turn the volume know about a half-turn. This will get you into the system service menu.
