SONY LBT-XGR6 COMPACT STEREO

Sounds like your protection circuit has been activated, which usually means that you have some blown output transistors. Good luck.

MY SONY STERIO KEEPS FLASHING

Generally speaking, an amp attempts to protect itself from heat, shorts, overloads and operator exuberance by refusing to turn on or stay on.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.

Check for loose speaker connections at the speaker as another possible root cause for intermittent shutdown.

How do u turn off

That's not even recommended. Why do you think that would help?

Re-orienting the antenna would give better results.

I have an 2002 LBT-XGR6

Hi ZDun,

My name is Mike, I'm here to help. You are my eyes and ears on this. So I'm going to ask some questions, you comment back with the answers. Some may seem common sense but I have to ask anyway. Ready?

OK. So we are clear, the speakers are currently Not working. No sound comes out of any of them whether it is set to Radio, CD, whatever?

If so, Might be able to believe a single piece of wire to have a fault. BUt all of them? Nah.

I've got to lean toward a very easy cause. Check the panel for a speaker select or mute button.
  • If there is a mute button, is it off?
  • Does the device have more than one set of speaker outputs? IF so, how are they selected? Which is selected?
  • Is the volume up? (I am so sorry to ask, but you would be surprised)
  • Is there a set of headphone plugged in?
  • If you have a set, plug them in, do they play?
Please comment back with you answers and observations

Mike

Its a 2001 stereo system

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Please check if the wires are not cut or loose. You mean no sound is coming when you try and play an Audio CD. If yes the use a Lens cleaner CD to clean the Lens of the CD player. If that doesn't resolve your issue then try and reset your player by turning it off and unplugging it from the wall socket. Also check if you are getting any sound from the Headphone jack. Also check if there is no shorted speaker wire/connections.
If these steps doesn't resolve your issue then it is due to Digital Audio processor chip that has open connections.
Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee
