I think the problem will be somekind of audio IC that controls volume and other aspects of the sound has failed. Not a job for an amateur to fix as it will almost certainly involve the desoldering and refitting of multi-pin microchip. I would take it to your nearest Sony Service center.

Sony lbt-x5g500

Power protect tends to mean the main power amp chip has "blown" and needs to be replaced. It only costs about 20 dollars (10GBP). If you are handy with a soldering iron it is easy to do (after you get the thing to bits !) It is the big black thing on the big heatsink inside. The Sony part number is STK442 - 130. Seems a waste to throw the whole thing away for the sake of 10 pounds !. Hope this helps. Nik Howell ([email protected])

Saying push power protect

Generally speaking, an amp attempts to protect itself from heat, shorts, overloads and operator exuberance by refusing to turn on or stay on.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.

My Sony Home Theater system

MHC-DP900D HAD SAME PROBLEM- PROTECT, PUSH POWER. TRACED CAUSE TO AMP. DC PROTECTION CIRCUIT ON AMPLIFIER BOARD. ACTUAL FAULT WAS A SHORT CIRCUIT OF THE AMP. IC LEFT CHANNEL OUPUTS (STK412-030 PINS 10 & 11)
EXCESSIVE SOLDER APPLIED DURING MANUFACTURE HAD PROBABLY BEEN HEATED UP ENOUGH DURING USAGE TO BRIDGE THE PINS. CURRENTLY USING THE UNIT WITH RIGHT CHANNEL ONLY UNTIL I PURCHASE A NEW IC. BYPASSED DC PROTECTION FOR LEFT CHANNEL BY ISOLATING INPUT TO DC DETECT TRANSISTOR.
This is what I could find, it looks like it will need serviceing unless you can do it yourself, it can be deadly if you don't know exactly what you are doing.
Thanks for the fixya rating, hope this helps

I have a Sony Dav Fx888k DVD HOME THEATER System, It's a 5 disc changer. I am unable to insert the CD. It displays C 31 00.

The error code C 31 00 on Sony DVD Home Theater System usually indicates a mechanical issue with the disc changer mechanism. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:
  1. Turn off the power to the DVD Home Theater System and unplug it from the wall outlet.
  2. Wait for a few minutes, then plug the system back in and turn it on.
  3. Press the "Eject" button on the remote or the unit to try to eject the disc tray.
  4. Gently try to move the disc tray by hand to see if it is stuck or obstructed.
  5. If the disc tray does not move, or if you hear any unusual noises, it may indicate a more serious mechanical issue that requires repair.
If none of these steps resolves the issue, it's recommended to contact Sony customer support or a qualified technician for further assistance.

Sony wireless headphones have static...why?

The static you're experiencing with your Sony wireless headphones can be caused by various factors, including interference from other electronic devices, radio frequency congestion, and distance from the transmitter. Here are some things you can try to minimize the static: Move the transmitter closer to your headphones: The closer your headphones are to the transmitter, the stronger the signal will be and the less static you will hear. Reduce interference: Try turning off any other electronic devices that may be causing interference, such as microwaves, wireless routers, and cordless phones. If possible, move the transmitter away from these devices. Change channels: Some wireless headphones have multiple channels to choose from. Try changing the channel to see if that reduces the static. Check the batteries: Make sure the batteries in your headphones are fully charged or replaced if necessary. Reset the headphones: Sometimes resetting the headphones can help eliminate static. Refer to the user manual for instructions on how to reset your specific model. Contact Sony customer support: If none of these solutions work, you may want to contact Sony customer support for further assistance or consider getting a replacement if your headphones are still under warranty.
