Sony MHC-GX45 CD Shelf System Questions & Answers
When the radio turns on
Generally speaking, an amp attempts to protect itself from heat, shorts, overloads and operator exuberance by refusing to turn on or stay on; or it may turn on but produce no audio to the speakers.
Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.
You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.
If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.
If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'nekkid'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.
Check for loose speaker connections at the speaker as another possible root cause for intermittent shutdown.
I dropped my phone battery
Try shaking the player upside down . You can also use a tweezer to pick this up. Or just open up carefully and take it out.

I own a sony MHC-GX45. A while ago the left
Sorry, I have a similar problem and came here looking for a solution. I believe the problem is with the speaker or the speaker wire. When I move the "good" speaker to the other set of lugs, it continues to function OK. I wish I could get the speaker box open without major surgery, but, alas, they are not made for repair. Don't know if I will cut into the box. My temp solution is to turn the unit off/on. This gets both speakers working. Bit of a drag, but I am finding it real difficult to find a new system w a tape player.
I had 2 watch type
These are foreign parts as nothing like them used in this hi-fi system.
Power light only flashes
No that is the unit telling you I am shorted so I will not turn on as it could cause a fire. Most likely there is a short in the audio output amplifier. This unit will need to ba taken into a repair shop and diagnosed. Good Luck
