Sony STR-DE705 Receiver Questions & Answers
Right speaker is distorted with low volume, left
Possibly one of the power transisitors has gone out. They are typically used in pairs, and if one went out, this is likely what you would experience. Open the unit and look for the power transistors. The have 3 leads and should be connected directly to a heat sync. If one burnt out, it will likely be obvious by just looking at it. Power transistors are cheap (>$10) and there are many online sources to by them from. With a litle soldering skill, shouldn't be too bad.
The word protector is displayed
If protect is coming up on the display, it means the system is detecting a short somewhere on one of the speakers and so is turning the amp off to avoid damage.
Check all the connections at the back of the amp to ensure they are not shorting, and at the back of each speaker, if nothing is found there, check each wire for damage (like squashed or rodent damage).
Reads protector
If you are using bare strand wire for your speakers, check all terminals on both ends to see that they are tight and there are no stray copper strands.
Hello. my sony receiver is flashing protector mode
More than likly the built in amplifier is dead and its time to lay it to rest. Before you do that, make sure all your positive and negitives are correct and that none of the wires are touching one another.
It blinks PROTECTOR
This means that the unit detected a problem and shut itself down to prevent further damage. The normal cuase of this is a defective transistor in the final amplifier stage. Figure on $15-$35 for parts plus the local labor rate for the total repair.
