20 Most Recent Sylvania SRPD442 42 in. EDTV-Ready Plasma Television Questions & Answers

Sylvania TVs are made by Funai Corp. You should try any Funai codes that are listed for the Synergy V remote. Alternatively, you can try the code search method, point and search. See http://help.rcn.com/pf/12/webfiles/files/ONNET6907/remotes/RC-U62CDR/index.htm#Point_and_Press_Programming for the details. One Synergy V remote code list is available in this copy of the manual: http://help.rcn.com/pf/12/webfiles/files/ONNET6907/remotes/RC-U63CDR/RC-U63CDR.pdf . I found the codes for Funai to be 047 048 157 168 211 .

I hope this helps.

(For my TV, the search all codes is often better for universal remotes. The brand name codes listed didn't work; searching all codes found an exact match for all the features that I use.)

A bad capacitor is a possibility, but lets define the problem first.

The set is shutting down because a problem is detected. This is commonly known as "protect" mode. With plasma sets, there are many reasons for this to happen. There are effectively at least 2 stages of power supply inside these sets. 1) The standard power supply that drives the video processing etc and 2) the plasma suplpy. A fault in either supply stage can cause this problem. I would not suggest just changing capacitors without an understanding of the function of that part. The cap may have been damaged as the result of another part failure. Just changing the cap without furthrer investigation can lead to more problems. This may not always be the case, but it can happen. At the very least, I would suggest that you invest in a detailed repair estimate from an authorized service center. At least that way you can have some cinfidense that the repair will be correct and long lasting.

You did not specify Mac model nor connection cable. Let me make a stab at it. ED means this is a 480-line interlaced or progressive, not sure. So you will need to select 640x480 plain or stretched. This based on what my MacBook Early 2009 white allows. I assume you are using an HDMI or DVI connection from a mini-DVI (mine) or the newer mini-DisplayPort. (I bought an ~$10 adaptor from monoprice.) -Ken

No, it doesn't have a digital tuner. If you want to watch digital channels you will have to acquire a digital set-top box and connect it to the tv thru the av inputs.

There is no cable connection. This set is a monitor and you need cable or satellite.

Before taking this to a local repair person, I suggest you check with your cable provider. See if they are having trouble with their HD transmission and then have them test your lines. Out here in Arizona with have constant problems with HD due to heat, rodents and poor installations. Your DVR only recorded the problems that were on your set. If these prove fruitless then take the TV to a reputable repair person.

Good Luck

The fault can be the screen itself, or one of the driver boards for the screen. This has to be verified by trying the boards.

I don't know for your model if the backplane lamps can be replaced. In most of the models they can be.

tot2523, your on off switch needs to be replaced. We have one, and we are now on our 2nd repair of the switch. First one blew and now the power switch won't go on. It seems it is a flaw with this t.v. Our t.v. is only 2 years old.....

If the line is vertical in nature then most likely then the plasma display panel is bad and won't be worth fixing because of cost. If the line is horizontal then the issue might be a lower or upper Y-buffer module.

This could be anything but is more than likely a problem in the power supply or control board. There really are not any user serviceable parts in these units and they have dangerous voltages. Repair is best left to a professional.

This can be many types of faults. The set will need shop service. There may be cold solder connections on one or some of the boards, or there may be come components that are intermittant. In anycase most of the time, there will be the need for board replacments.

The cost for this type of repair can be fairly expensive. I would consider investing in to a new set because after having this serviced, there will still be many older components in the set that can potentialy fail.

Call the tech support for your TV set. There may be a servcie setup fault, or a component failed that controls the placement of the text, or it may even be a user setup that can be done.

If there is a failure, the set will have to be serviced.

I would guess that you refered to the user manual for any possiblity that there is a setup for the placement of the text...
