I own a 2300. It is an excellent camera and has a very good macro. With a small lamp near the object it should really shine.

They are recharged with the included charger. It takes approximately 12 to 13 hours. They can also be recharged with the optional quick charger in 2 hours.

To send a FinePixViewer image file in an e-mail message as an attachment, Microsoft Outlook Express or Microsoft Outlook 2000 e-mail software is required. 1. In the "My Computer" window on your PC, select "Internet Options" in "Control Panel" and click "Programs". 2. Check that "Outlook Express" or Outlook" 2000" is displayed in the "E-mail" field. Attaching an image file to an e-mail message 1. Launch FinePix Viewer. 2. Select the folder containing the image file in the folder tree display area on the left. Thumbnails of the images in the folder appear on the right. "Outlook Express" or "Outlook 2000" is displayed in the "E-mail" field. 3. Click the thumbnail for the image file to be attached to the e-mail. To attach multiple files, hold down the [Ctrl] key on the keyboard and click the images to select them. To deselect an image file, click the image again. 4. With the thumbnail for the image file to be attached still selected, select "Mail sending" in the "File" menu. Your e-mail software starts up and the image file is attached to a message. Fill in the destination address, title and the message body, and then use the usual procedure to send the message. * images files sent using FinePixViewer can be no larger than 1 MB and no more than 10 files in total. If the total file size is greater than 1 MB, a warning message appears when you click [Mail sending]. If the files are too large, decrease the number of files until the warning message no longer appears. Note also that you should not exit FinePixViewer until mail transmission is completed, otherwise it will not be possible to send the e-mail message with the attached image file. * Some service providers place limits on the sizes of files that can be attached to an e-mail message. The transmission of large image files can also take a considerable time. Select "Mail Transmission Settings" from the "Settings" menu in FinePixViewer and resize the attached image files so that they are no larger than necessary.

To make an image file smaller for e-mail transmission, change the image file size in "Exif Viewer" or "FinePixViewer". Changing the size of an image file 1. Start up the Viewer and select the folder containing the image you wish to send. 2. Double-click the thumbnail for the image file you want to resize to open the image in its own full-size window. 3. Select "Image size" in the "Image" menu. 4. Set "%" as the "Unit" used for file size display. Then enter a value lower than 100 as the "Width" or "Height" and click the [OK] button. 5. Select "Save as" in the "File" menu to save the image. (You can also reduce the image file size by lowering the quality in "Save as type".)

If the camera is still not recognized after the USB driver has been re-installed, one of the following situations may apply. "PC Camera" may be selected as the USB setting on the digital camera. Change the USB setting to DSC or select DSC in USB MODE. (This only applies to models with a USB Setting or USB MODE option in the SETUP screen.) Does the LCD monitor on the digital camera show that the USB connection is active (USB, DSC or a USB symbol with an arrow, etc.)? If not, the digital camera and PC may not be connected correctly. Check the items listed below. a) Restart the PC and reconnect the USB cable. b) If the PC has multiple USB ports, connect the cable to a different USB port. If steps a) and b) have both been tried and there is still no USB connection indicator displayed on the LCD monitor, there may be a problem with the digital camera or USB cable. Contact an authorized Fujifilm service center and ask them to check the digital camera together with the USB cable. Refer to the Digital Equipment Repair page for information such as the procedure for requesting checks and the locations of authorized Fujifilm service outlets. The USB driver may not be installed correctly. Download the USB driver from the Digital Camera Downloads page and re-install the driver The camera may not be recognized correctly if it is connected to an added USB interface board or via a USB hub. Always connect the camera directly to the USB port on the PC

If the images on a SmartMedia or xD-Picture Card fail to appear when the camera is connected to a Windows PC, one of the situations listed below may apply. 1. There may be a problem with the SmartMedia or xD-Picture Card. Check that the images can be viewed on the digital camera. If the images cannot be viewed on the digital camera, gently wipe the gold colored contact area on the SmartMedia or xD-Picture Card with a soft cloth and then check again. 2. If the removable disk does not appear when you open "My Computer" in Windows, it is possible that the USB drivers are not installed correctly. Update to the latest version of FinePix Viewer (including the USB drivers). To update FinePix Viewer, you must have the software from the CD-ROM bundled with the product (Utilities for FinePix) already installed. As an alternative method to updating the software, you can also reinstall the USB drivers. The USB drivers can be reinstalled by installing the software from the CD-ROM again. If the removable disk is still not displayed after the above measures have been taken, check the following: Windows system checks 1. You should be using Windows 98, Windows 98SE, Windows ME, Windows 2000 or Windows XP. 2. The Windows XP USB drivers are supported as standard system drivers but are only compatible with Software for FinePix versions 2.0 or later. If you are using an earlier version of the CD-ROM, an update to FinePix Viewer is required. 3. The software cannot be installed properly from "Scanners and Cameras" in the Control Panel. Digital camera checks 1. Check that the digital camera can play back images on its LCD monitor. 2. On digital cameras with the PC Camera function, select "DSC" as the USB setting. (Refer to the Owner's Manual for your camera for information on specifying the camera settings.)

Use the procedure below to search for digital camera image files saved on a PC. 1. In the "Start" menu on the desktop, open "Find" -> "Files or Folders". 2. In the "Names & Locations" window, enter the image file name in the "Named" field. Enter "DSCF" as the file name if you have not renamed the file. If you changed the file name, enter the new file name. 3. In "Look in" select the hard disk and then click the [Find Now] button to begin the search. The files found are listed in the search result. Check the results for the desired files. 4. If the desired files are not in the search results, the image files were not saved. --Saving Image Files-- - Downloading images from FinePixViewer or Exif Viewer: 1. Connect the digital camera to the PC. The "Viewer" window opens and the images are displayed as thumbnails. 2. Click "Select All" in the "Edit" menu. 3. All the images are selected (indicated by a pink frame). With the left-hand mouse button held down, move (drag) the images to the folder in which you want to save them and then release the button (drop). - Saving images from a removable disk: Connect the digital camera to the PC. When the Viewer automatically starts up, click the Close ([X]) button to close the Viewer window. Then open the "My Computer" -> "Removable disk" -> "DCIM" -> "100_FUJI" folder and select "Select All" in the "Edit" menu. Then select "Copy" in the "Edit" menu; open the folder in which you want to save the images, and select "Paste" in the "Edit" menu. All the selected images are copied and saved in the folder. You can also copy the images by selecting the entire "100_FUJI" folder.

Description When I connect my FinePix camera to my computer, the AutoPlay Wizard does not launch as shown in the manual. I have Windows XP and I have installed the FinePix Viewer software. Cause AutoPlay is a Windows XP feature. The AutoPlay setting may not be working properly in your Operating system. This situation is not the result of a faulty camera or FinePix Viewer software. Solution We suggest running the Microsoft AutoPlay Repair Wizard utility which is available as a free download from the Microsoft Download Center. The AutoPlay Repair Wizard scans your computer devices to find defective AutoPlay settings, and attempts to fix those it finds. To download this utility, please go to the Microsoft Download Center and enter "AutoPlay" in the Keyword box.

About the HS10 autofocus problem, I discovered the cause and solution. It is a problem of camera design, and is caused by three screws securing the CCD sensor. These screws are not properly secured and the vibration eventually dropping.
In two cameras with the same defect, the screws were loose. These screws adjust the sensor position relative to the lens and the sensor is loose when out of position not allowing proper focus.
The solution is to disassemble the camera and secure the screws.
These screws can not be too tight they need to be adjusted to position the CCD sensor correctly. The camera is difficult to dismantle because several wires are soldered.
Care must be taken to discharge the capacitor of the flash, this may cause an electric shock and burn the camera board.

Many occasions LCD on camera display never fails but back light fails unless physical damage to LCD screen. Hold a torch to display when camera is on you will see faint(black and white) image means LCD is ok but back light is failed, it's replaceable but needs little skill to replace. Or replace full Screen with backlight. This is easy. Just remove back cover, remove display by loosening flex lock, put back new display carefully lock it holding flex with one finger. Please do not touch display flex contacts.
