you have a leaky capacitor which gives you this intermittent problem
All you can do is to replace the circuitry or have it done by a repairman
the capacitor is built into the circuit board which is machine made since it is so small
Most circuits are made this way since human hands can not manufacture very small circuits

Sounds like a setting issue, try to to a camera reset to factory settings and give it a try.
You should be able to find that in the settings menu.
Hope this helps

If the batteries did leak out, then you could clean the battery contacts with contact cleaner and a pencil eraser. Providing the contacts are intact, you might get it going again with new normal AA batteries.

Don't you hate it when this happens? It also sounds as if you already know the LCD, sensor or the shutter have worn out and the cost of repair is no longer economically practical. I'm using a Fuji S100fs for an all a round camera which catches all sorts of uses including time laps. One day I'll be in the same situation you are right now.
Fuji produces wonderful fixed lens cameras loaded with features more then I want or would use but I'd buy another in a heart beat when my S100fs does hit the bricks.
I think also that you answered your own question "my only option" and for that I can only say I'm sorry for your lose.
Best of luck in your search for a "new" friend

Does the lens attempt to extend and retrace when the camera powers up? Sounds like the notorious lens stuck error to me. Does the display show any diagnostic messages?
My Finepix has a white
Hello
White screens or screens with similar issues (black, "staticy") are indications that the CCD sensor has failed. It is the image sensor that the camera sees with. The camera itself may be operating just fine otherwise, but you can no longer see anything (as the camera can not) via the LCD screen (as it is relaying what the CCD sensor sees).
Unfortunately, your camera will have to be repaired. However, with a camera of that age, you may be better served by purchasing a new one, which will have more features for around the same price as a repair.

The
image sensor has failed, the symptoms described are unmistakeable.
You'll find that shots taken before the fault occurred display normally,
confirming that the LCD anel is fine.
It's purely an age
related issue and finally kills many digital cameras over six years old.
The sensor has not failed prematurely as your camera was designed for a
five year minimum lifespan. The only fix is to get the sensor
professionally replaced (if available), but the cost far exceeds both
the value of the camera and the cost of buying a brand new basic model
which will still have a higher spec in most respects than your current
model.
Your only fix is to recycle the camera and replace it.

Most likely a dead CCD (imager) unit. Happens to these cameras. Usually they are supplied with the lens and are expensive if ordered from Fujifilm - could be about $200-300. I wouldn't recommend using used parts because they could break down again sooner or later. I suggest you buy a new camera.
I have worked for Fujifilm.

Don't worry, your lost photos that are very precious can be recovered with ease. I would like to introduce you a very good data Recovery software, called tenorshare data recovery which can be used to recover images from SD card and from other storage devices. This software is an assortment of data recovery components designed for recovering deleted / lost files and folders, photos, RAW images, music & video files from crashed, re-partitioned, accidentally formatted partitions & drives.
You can get it from:

Geofchaam,
You could be experiencing one of two issues:
1) You are having a difficulty viewing the image on the back of the camera (not the view finder). This is common on cameras out in the sun, try cupping your spare hand over the screen to cast a shadow on the screen.
2) You cannot view anything in the view finder. Since the view finder has its own tiny LCD display inside of it, it is displaying what image the camera will take if you press the shutter release. I would double check to see if the camera is set correctly for shooting in bright sunlight (check your owners manual, or set the camera to Automatic), and if there is a difference between what you're seeing in the viewfinder, and what images the camera is taking, consider calling Fuji, as it sounds like a hardware issue.
What setting do I use to shoot close up (macro)
1) switch camera to "on"
2) Using the fwd, back etc control switch, located to the right of the screen, set it to "macro"
This is the left hand side of the ring switch. (back arrow). The macro icon (looks like a flower icon)will appear in the viewfinder in the top left hand corner.
3) to cancel macro, press this "back arrow" again.Or switch the camera to off.
