Re: EWR10D4 firmware

Funai will no longer cooperate on this matter. They swear they no longer have the firmware and that there is nothing they can (or will) do for anyone on this. (I have their emails as testament of that.) I can only record (DVD-RW) at 1x-2x. Not even at 4x. I could really use that firmware that by now, surely most that had the upgrade no longer need.
If anyone has this, could you make it available to those of us that need it? Thank you in advance.

Hi
Is it still recording?, if not
It sounds like the laser ( optical pick up) has failed, or something relating to this, there is no affective way to reset the machine to improve this problem, it is highly likely that the machine is beyond economical repair if the laser has failed.

When I bought my emerson ewr10d4 about 2-3 years ago, the machine only recorded on disks that were rated at 2x or 4x speed. And it didn't accept off-brand disks, it only liked the major brands like Maxell, TDK, Memorex, Sony. I learned this quirk the hard way. Eventually, when I called the 1-800 number, they sent me a disk to upgrade the recorder to 8x speed (and it was very simple to do - basically just pop it in). Helped a lot, although this year most disks in stores are 16x speed, and as of a couple months ago (November 2008) emerson didn't have a newer up-to-date upgrade available. But if you didn't do the 8x upgrade yet, call them and start there. It's a small improvement, but an improvement nonetheless. By the way, if anyone wants to buy some lesser-known chinese and japanese-brand disks, I may be able to help!

Hi.

The fact that the disk is new does not mean much. Often you get recording error, because the recorder 'does not like' the media. Also a new disk, even branded one, may be faulty.

Try again using disks from different brands. Try also both DVD+R (or +RW), and DVD-R (or -RW), this two system have different data error management system and write the track in different ways, even if most recorders are supposed to work well on both, many recorder will work fine in either one of the two formats.

If that does not fix the problem, then recording error is often caused by dirty lens, you can try using a lens cleaner disk, or attempt cleaning lens directly. See the article here (on reading problems, but lens cleaning procedure is the same):My player does not read disks

If the problem is only writing, and happens with all disks, then you may have a more serious electronic problem concerning unit powering the laser, laser assembly , or control assembly. In that case the unit will need testing.

Before cleaning lens I suggest calling Emerson at the number written on the manual and verify warranty status. Often maintenance operation like lens cleaning can affect your warranty.

Regards.

Hi,

Your Emerson DVD player has Audio in and Video In input at the rear panel connector. Just connect the satellite input through CoAxial to the rear Video input(Yellow) and audio input(Red and white) of the dvd player..

And from the Video output and audio output of the DVD player, connect it to the TV, Now you can view the program from the Dish directly on the TV and you can also record the input from the Satellite..

Please leave me comment, if you need further assistance
