Philips DVP642 DVD Player - Page 5 Questions & Answers
I have a Philips DVP642 DVD player. It has worked
First try a soft reset... unplug for 20 minutes.
Otherwise - the laser is dirty or misaligned.
A Repair shop can clean and align for about $50.
It takes specialized equipment and templates to align the laser - not something you can do on your own.
Lens cleaner discs don't work.

Hi.
Try using the Display button, this is usually located under the button 9.
If that does not work, check if there is a button called mode, in the lower right hand corner of the remote button pad.
DVP642/ 37 DVD player says "NO DISK" with any disk.
Usually if there is a NO DISC error, and the lens is verified clean, there is either dust in the laser assembly (use a can of compressed air to clean it out) or a loose laser assembly cable. Also check to make sure the lens can bob (wiggle around), and that it can slide back and forth.
The emergency eject is underneath, its a small slot. Insert a toothpick at one end and slide to the other end to open the tray.
I bought a brandnew stereo cd player its a 110
Well, that'll teach ya!! Hopefully the fuse dod it's job. Replace it and try it out. Definitely worth trying the cost of the fuse. I don't know what it is, but open it up and take it to the electronics store, they'll hook you up.
Stuck dvd and no power
I fixed this problem in my DVP642 by replacing a capacitor on the main
power board where the power chord hooks in. Take the top cover off
(after unplugging player). You'll be able to locate the bad capacitor
on the circuit board located on the very right. Look for location
marked c316 on the circuit board. A bad capacitor will be bulged up on
top. The capacitor you're looking for will be a black barrel shape with
an aluminum top, this aluminum top will be bulged up or leaking on the
circuit board. Replace this capacitor by desoldering the two leads into
the board and replacing with an identical part you can pick up at Radio
Shack for a couple dollars. My repair for this identical problem was a
success. The blinking light is the tip off for this particular problem
on these Phillips models.

PHILIPS VIDEO DVD PLAYER DVP 3026
you may need to change the settings for video out. If the video is set to Progressive scanning and P Y R (green, blue, red cables) then it won't display video using the yellow cable. turn progressive scanning off and maybe try to select S video output. that worked for me. of course u mite have to have a tv that has both yellow video input and blue green red video input to see the menu to start with.
