Turns on then turns off in seconds

There is a short circuit in the main board to this TV. Check its horizontal scan output transistor for short. Short circuit protection circuit activates and shuts down the TV from preventing further damage, is happening here. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ Pull up older posts. Check the site in 'Mosaic' view. It will make search easy.

IR sensor and side buttons don't work

Check the remote control first for its infrared emission. Check it with fresh batteries. Clean the battery contacts inside the battery compartment, for any dust or rust accumulated. If you wish to know more about how to check and clean a remote control, check this link. If remote control is found OK, check and replace the infrared sensor inside the TV. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ Pull up previous posts by its left sidebar, or type in the brand name and model number to of your set, to its search box, and press 'Enter' or view it in Mosaic / Timeslide option.

I want to use my philips 29 PT8321as a monitor for my laptop

I think you need a VGA to Component Video Converter. You will need a VGA to VGA cable as well as the Component video cable and the converter box. One converter box: http://www.national-tech.com/specs/vga-to-component/40h1-50200.htm

You can check your video output specs: if your video driver can split the VGA signal into the different video components, then you just would need the component video to VGA adapter. (This is usually limited to working with projectors unless you have a higher-end stand alone graphics card.)

I hope this helps.

Shutdown after video comes up

Re:"shutdown after video comes up the green power light stays on but the set will not shut down while changing channels."

Hi.

I do not think this has anything to do with logic circuits and video processing. When you stay on one channel the horizontal and vertical alignment circuit works more than if you change channels all the time.
This is just a guess, but have a look at convergence ICs. when you keep changing channels the power amp ICs (or transistors) go on and off, if one of them is defective it will overheat and shut down.
Other possibility is an internal tuner failure. Also test using a DVS or VCR.

Is there an on line manual for element 32inch .

Betty I have repaired a few of these. The biggest problem is capacitor location 2455, which is a 25 volt 47Mf capacitor. This capacitor is dry and the voltage is rising and shutting things down. Also resolder Q7461 and Q7463, these are transistors. Take this note to your local TV tech to fix your TV! Thanks for asking me...repairs are near!

Keeps shutting off shortly after it comes on

This may be needing a horizontal drive kit. Unplug the CRT socket, to see if the TV will stay on. Also, look for discolored surface mount parts in the horizontal drive section that may be causing the problem.

Hi I have a problem with my philips crt tv...can u

Sounds similar to a problem I had , haveing bought and install components to repair/upgrade the power supply I still had the same problem. I solved the problem by adjusting the LOPT line output transformer be carefull of the high voltages even when powered down, the lopt has one adjustment just turn it as little as possible, power up and see it solves your problem, I'm not sure in which direction but try anti clockwise first. Mind only needed the smallest of adjustments. Make a note of where it is before you make any adjustments. My TV been as good as gold for a couple of years now

The picture shows up as a 4 inch wavy line across

Replace capacitor [location 2455] it is a 25 volt 47 MF cap. Use a high temp cap at 105 degrees. And resolder Q7461 and Q 7463. Find someone who works electronics and they can repair using this info! You will have a TV as good as new....I promise!

No power to my tv set. fuse blow. but there is no

When a Fuse "Blows" NEVER just replace it. One must always find the exact cause for this, otherwise there is a risk of fire or even explosion... The reason a fuse Blows, is due to a short-circuit of some sort, to earth. Occasionally a fuse may spontaneously fail... but this is rare. These types of problems must only be sorted out by qualified service man/center.

Rainbow on bottom of picture .it is blue in color.

Most likely to be caused by a strong magnetic field. Move any/all stereo speakers, subwoofer, AC power adaptor, or other magnetic radiating object away from the TV. Sometimes the magnetic source will leave some residual magnetism in the metal parts of the TV, but that will clear if the TV is turned off and allowed to cool before turning back on.

Which universal remote will allow me to disable

Generally you will need the original remote to control functions such as captioning and other advanced options. Universal remotes are fine for the basics such as channel selection, volume, and on-off. The part number I found is Phillips part # 313922886464 and looks to be available at partstore.com for about $22.00 with a 30 day warranty.

My tv fickers and shuts off ?

SYMPTOM:
Clicks and turns off after turning on set when cold. Have to turn on and off several times to work, or keep changing channels, right side of screen is black for a while.
PROBLEM: It is almost always a bad transistor and a bad capacitor. (about $0.70 in parts)
SOLUTION:
This repair is fairly straightforward. You will need a soldering iron, a solder ******, and a small torx bit. Unplug the set. Lay the TV on the floor, screen down. Remove the torx screws holding the rear cover on. There should be 10, (don’t forget the 2 by the input panel). You will see 2 circuit boards, the one of interest is the large one near the bottom of the set. This board has a retainer clip on each side that needs to be pulled out to allow the circuit board2.gif to slide out. Slide the board out about 5-6 inches. You might need to support the board so it doesn’t slide back down into the TV set. This circuit board should have numbers by each of the components. You want to look for 7461 (transistor) and 2455 (capacitor). They are located right next to each other near the center of the board. The transistor will usually overheat and discolor the circuit board immediately around it. Warm up the soldering iron and get the solder ****** ready. Heat up the solder joint while removing excess solder with the ******. Once the transistor and capacitor are free, check the numbers on each. The capacitor (round cylinder) should have “47uf” on it. The transistor should have “C33725” on it. You can order these parts from Digi-Key (google it) for about $2.50 including shipping if you use USPS option. The part numbers are: 493-1060-ND for the capacitor and BC33725-ND for the transistor. Once you get your parts, solder them in and check TV operation. It should work as it did before. This repair can be done by anyone familiar with a soldering iron in about 30-45 minutes their first time. Good Luck!!
