Sounds like you have a bad power supply, it's not too uncommon. You should be able to get one locally for under 50 bucks, or online even cheaper.

i dealt with this sort of problem with emachines, end result is i had to replace the board.

check the main power cord that plugs into the wall socket. try a known good power cord. Also, try holding the power button down for 10 seconds and try to power it back up.

you can download the sound driver of your motherboard,just visit the web site of emachine and find the model number of your pc and you download the driver.

First when you power up the computer press F1 or F2 or "del" key to enter in bios.
Then make sure in bios that harddrive is detected.
Open cpu cabinet and reattach both connection to harddrive.
Refix RAM memory
If you are able to see wiondows logo then you see blank then it is display resolution issue.
Then when you power up the computer press F8 key then enter in enable vga mode then go to display property and change screen resolution to 1024*768 .
Then check.
But if you are still not get your windows then you need to boot computer with recovery disk or windows disk.
Boot your computer with that disk
For that when you power up the computer press F1 or F2 "del" key to enter in bios.
Then go to boot menu and set frist boot device as your cd or dvd rom.
Then save settings and exit bios.
Insert windows disk in cd /dvd rom.
Then it boot with that disk.Then you get this message "Press any key to boot from cd.."
Then press any key.
Then follow the procedure then enter in recovery console mode then type in prompt "chkdsk /r"
Then type "y"
Then it fix error on hard drive.
Then check if again you are not able to enter in windows then boot again and this time choose "R" option for repair previous windwos " then it repairs old windows then it loads again old windows.

SOLUTION #1: If you have a driver CD that came with your eMachine, look for the audio folder on the CD. If there is a "setup" program inside this folder, then run it. SOLUTION #2: Start, Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager, right click on sound device, choose Update driver, install from list, don't search, have disk, browse to the audio driver location on the driver CD, then okay it. SOLUTION #3: Download the file from the following URL, unzip it, then run the SETUP program inside the folder. http://downloads.emachines.com/drivers/audio/T1140_50_Audio.zip

The super-cheapie models use Realtek AC97 2-channel drivers, while the multi channels use Realtex HD drivers. You can go direct to Realtek's website (google "realtek drivers" and go to their website.

Control Panel / System / hit the "hardware" tab, device manager, scroll down to "sound video and game controllers" hit the plus sign to the left, and your audio devices should be listed. The one with the yellow sign of doom is the problem device, and the name of the device is the one you want from Realtek.

Rather than let Windows search for it, I'd rather take it from Realtek, and run the install. Afterwards, burn it to a CD for use when you upgrade, or reinstall your OS.

Make sure your audio drivers are uninstall (if you can but, not required), and install Driver Max software. Do a google search and install the driver max software. This software automatically detects all the hardware components in your computer and help you install the relevant drivers This works real good for emachines.

Did you check the CMOS battery and the CPU fan. Those are two things that if aren't working the way they should be, then some computers will not boot up. Try this first then post a response if you still can't get it working.

Will it read any form of disk at all ?

Also check i your hardware panel for any exclamation marks with any hardware and fix those first if there are any.

Check the cable on the drive, disconnect it and reconnect it to ensure it is on properly.

If you still have no luck it is quite possible that it is defective.
