They are correct...Olympus no longer makes the xd picture card. You might be able to find one at This is a 7 year old camera and only 2megapixels. If I were you, I would step up to a modern camera that uses SD/SDHC cards. You will be amazed at the results you will get.

You need to look at the media card onto which you are taking the photos. Possibly when you reinserted that card into the camera, you accidentaly moved the copy protection switch into the read only position.

These things are so very small that they are hard to see, or even feel, and equally difficult to know when you have moved it.

Remove the card and check the edges for this switch, to ensure that it has not been moved into read only. Then move it back to allow writing to the card.

Many cameras will not read cards written on other, different cameras. There should be no problem taking the card to a store and having the pics printed or put on a disc. Or get a cord for the 390, or a card reader for your computer.

Not sure what it is you are saying here it is conflicting

Size can be chaged 320x320... 600x400 etc but the resolution is final. If the camera is 6mp or 1.3 mp that is its resolution and cannot be changed.

You can change the speed via the ISO from say 200 400 600 what this does is alter the speed of the film and improve the compression of the pixels to make a more compact picture. But does not change the resolution it remains whatever MPs it was rated at by the manufacturer.

thank you for using fixya. if you have tried deleting the items on the camera and from a computer through a memory card reader, you may want to format your memory card or use a new one because it may have been damaged or a part of it has been corrupted.

what should i do

The problem is that the largest xD card that your camera can support is a 256mb card without the M or H letters on it. The 1gb or 2gb card is not compatible.

I tried many ways to fix the problem. Someone suggesting unpluging it for 30 min. That didn't work. I downloaded the latest version of the camera driver. That didn't work. I downloaded the latest version of windows, and that didn't work.
I was running out of ideas. But I thought I might try restoring my computer to a prior date. This restore feature hasn't worked for me for 6 month. But, that day, luck was on my side.
Since I restored my computer to two weeks ago. My problem, is fixed!

Try formatting with an external card reader and PC.

Olympus Camedia... | 579 views | 0 helpful votes

I will give you the steps that you can isolate whether memory card or the reader has malfunction. check the memory card with external card reader by connecting to computer if card really bad it will alert either error or unformatted (make sure write protection of the card is off if exist). When you format in computer successfully it can work in camera too. If issue persist in camera side you can try another card and next step will be hardware repair of camera reader. hope it will help.
Good Luck

Hi, The only reason your apps freezes is if it is having a hard time communicating with the camera and more often than not it is the memory of the camera that causes this. A couple of things you can try: 1. Rather than direct connection camera to PC, use a memory card reader. Remove the camera memory and use the reader to access/transfer the files; 2. It may be time to reformat the memory card itself which can be done by the PC through the card reader or the Format command in your camera; 3. retrieve files from the camera memory using a file recovery program such as "GetDataBack for FAT" and after all pictures/data/files have been recovered, do 2 above; 4. Try a different memory card (not necessarily same capacity) to check whether it is the memory or the camera itself; and/or 5. Reset you camera (powering off and removing the battery). Good luck and kind regards.
